Undefeated Eldersburg, MD light heavyweight Mark "TNT" Tucker made his first successful title defense of his USBO Light Heavyweight title with a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Silver Spring, MD's George "El Gallo" Armenta in front of a packed house at Shipley Arena in Westminster, MD.
In what was a great bout, both men landed solid shots throughout the contest. Early on in the bout, Tucker held an advantage using his long right jab. By the middle rounds, Armenta found a way to get inside and do damage, testing Tucker's chin as no one had throughout his young career. Tucker weathered the storm and was able to get a victory.
Judge Gary Camponeschi saw the bout 98-92. John Gradowski scored the bout 98-96 and Don Risher scored it 96-94. BATB scored the bout 96-94, but for Armenta.
With the win, Tucker is now 13-0, seven KO's. Armenta falls to 13-5, 11 KO's. After the contest, there was an announcement that Tucker will challenge for the IBO Light Heavyweight championship on March 27 in Newark, NJ.
In other bouts on the card, Baltimore middleweight Omar "The Machine" Sims lost a six-round unanimous decision to Jamar "The Truth" Freeman of Wilson, NC in the third bout between them. Freeman got off to a faster start and was able to garner the relatively easy victory. The scores were: Dave Braslow and Risher (59-55), Gradowski (60-54). Freeman remains undefeated at 5-0-2, one KO. Sims is now 3-2-3, one KO.
Annapolis, MD middleweight Vincent "The Beast" Batteast won his first pro bout with a four-round unanimous decision over Frederick, MD's Allan "Pit Bull" Perkins. Batteast scored a knockdown over Perkins in the second round with a short, sharp left hand. The knockdown proved to be the difference as all three judges (Braslow, Risher, Malik Waleed) scored the bout 38-37. Batteast's record is all even at 1-1-1. Perkins falls to 1-2.
The curtain-raising bout saw Philadelphia, PA cruiserweight Garrett Wilson win a four-round split decision over Adam Willet of Bellport, NY. Wilson is now 7-2, two KO's. Willet is 1-1.
TNT Promotions and the Maryland Boxing Club promoted the show. The matchmaker was Rick Glaser.

Gabcast! Boxing Along the Beltway #192 - Full Report of Championship Night in Westminster!
"The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears and I recap the championship card at Shipley Arena in Westminster, MD!
I saw Tucker lose that bout! George won 8 out of 10 rounds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a robbery that was>
What do you expect he's fighting in his own Living Room, forget about the back yard. He will never lose a Dec in Westminister!!!!!
ReplyDeleteReally sad
ReplyDeleteI had george winning 6-4 . It was a great fight. Tucker won the first with ease then George came on to sweep the next 4 rounds. It seemed George took a round off and picked up the pace again and won the next round. The last 3 rounds were close with Tucker boxing better but George landing the bigger punches. Great fight bad decision.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very good fight but far from a robbery. Both fighters had their moments with Armenta stunning Tucker but Tucker throwing far more punches and landing a lot of straight lefts. George is tough.
ReplyDeleteAnd he's going to fight for the IBO Heavyweight title, what a joke. He'll get his A** handed to him.
ReplyDeleteStop the hate Tucker is 22 years old! Give the kid a break. Who else in the beltway area has been in as tough as him this early
ReplyDeleteI'm sure its probably the IBO lightheavyweight belt not heavyweight.
ReplyDeleteIt is for the IBO intercontinental bout.
ReplyDeleteI had the bout even even eight. I felt that Tucker put in some body work in the eighth that slowed Armenta down just enough for him to win the last two rounds and the fight. Both round were close though.
It was not a robbery. i had it like two of the judges and i am not a fan off either fighter. i am just a neutral observer.
"TNT" is good who else is fighting for a IBO around here..... no one...
ReplyDeletesaw the fight and tnt was more like a fire cracker. highway robbery.
ReplyDeleteNEVER EVER SLEEP ON THE ROOSTER,HE IS THE FIRST ONE UP,BAD DECISION GOOD FIGHT REMATCH IN ORDER
ReplyDeleteGood fight George. You know the deal. No way he'll fight you again.
ReplyDeleteDid Snow punk Samuel or what? I heard Snow beat the crap out of Samuel in sparring so I doubt Samuel will step up.
Tucker clearly lost!!! Armenta is the winner and Tucker Jr. and Sr. know it!!!. This is not the 1st nor the last time the TNT team have won a fight like this. The judges and TNT team need to be investigated. His name should be Mark “TNT” Sucker!!! George beat him fair and square.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t call these pro-Armenta comments form people on this board as jealousy because Jealousy would be if Tucker clearly won this match and people were of envy of him. Injustice is the terminology that best describes this issue. Armenta won and was robbed of this win by Judges that were clearly bias in favor of Tucker Sr. and the TNT team. It’s funny how it’s always the same judges at a Tucker fight, makes you think. At least one of them has Judged almost every Tucker fight at the Shipley Arena.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why the judges are the same is because they use the judges in Maryland just like every other promoter in the state.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think the judges have a bias toward Tucker or any other boxer in the area. I think local boxer Demetrius Davis would beg to differ when he didn't get a nod last year against out-of-towner Tommy Karpency which, in my opinion was definitely highway robbery.
The Tucker-Armenta wasn't even close to the level of Davis-Karpency. Keep in mind, Armenta is from Maryland also. I did think Armenta won the bout, but quite frankly it was close and I didn't really have a major problem with the decision.
Gary,
ReplyDeleteThese people are fools. The fight was very competitive and was up in the air for awhile. Tucker finished the fight better in the last few rounds (though Armenta rallied in parts of round ten) and that is what won him the fight.
Armenta could have done a lot more too Tucker was the busier fighter.
Tucker was visibly hurt and in a lot of pain after the fight. Armenta wasn't even fazed. Tucker has a long way to go if he plans to fight more people like Armenta. But from the looks of it, Armenta did win this fight and I have no clue what the judges were thinking, its decisions like these that ruin boxing and make MMA look a whole lot better.
ReplyDeleteTucker and Tucker,Good job guys,
ReplyDeleteThe Farmers
I saw the fight and I am not a Tucker or Armenta fan, that said... Armenta was the clear winner if this fight. It's upsetting that a politics and money can sway a decision from a boxing judge.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much money spent and convincing Spiritbear Tucker Sr. had to do in order to get on the good side of the judges on this one.
ReplyDeleteThree truths about this event
ReplyDelete#1. Armenta won the fight
#2. It was a bad decision
#3. The crowd was prejudice and blatantly ignorant (especially after the fight) many racial slurs were made by the hometown fans.
I will never ever travel out to Westminster ever again to see a fight ever again.
That is one of the dumbest comments that I have read in the almost five years I have been doing this blog.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, the Maryland commission is among the most even when it comes to race that I have ever seen. The Tucker-Armenta bout really isn't a race issue, but I just had to say how totally wrong you are and that is the ONLY reason why I'm leaving your ridiculous comment up.
At least Kenny Chevalier was not involved. He is definitely a crook. I think Malik Walid is good but he was not involved in the judging of this bout.
ReplyDeleteI still question the decision though. I really didn't see how Tucker won this fight. When I look back at it, yes Tucker did have 3 good rounds, but Armenta dominated this fight clearly and landed clean hard punches.
ReplyDeletemark tucker deff won, i had him up 2 easy, thatd make it 7 to 3
ReplyDeleteOne major clue that this fight was fixed was the fact that only a few seconds after the the announcement of Tucker's win, they announced that Tucker was going to fight for the IBO belt. Tucker's father must either be a super fast promoter or this the win was already grantee by the judges to set him up for the next fight. Go figure...
ReplyDeleteOH Man...Stop Fuckin Hatin On Tucker! He is Undefeated, and has accomplished more than anybody else along the "beltway" in recent memory! He is not like anybody else around here, he fights TUFF Opposition, and is looking at the BIG PICTURE! People around here think the idea is to be a big fish in a small pond, (minno in a mud puddle)...Man up and give him credit, look at who he has fought, anybody else around here fight competition like that?! NOPE! The fight was on the line, and he dug down and won the last two rounds...The Haters will really be showing their Ugly Head next year when he moves up into TV spotlight! As a Matter of Fact, go to BOXREC...look at what TNT has done this year, and ask yourself, do u Really Know anybody who would fight that competition in fights 7-13? If u cant admit what he has accomplished, then you should be frisked down to see if you have a set of Balls.
ReplyDeleteThis was a CLOSE fight (two judges had it 96-94) and a GREAT fight for Maryland boxing. I will never understand the reasons why certain anonymous bloggers find the inherent need to spew such hateful, nasty and ridiculous remarks which are so off base that they are really not worth even commenting on further.
ReplyDeleteI had the Armenta camp winning by 2 rounds or 3. Very action packed fight and Tucker was hurt on several occasions. I would love to see a rematch. That was my first live fight ever. I am a Tucker fan but that night I felt he lost.

ReplyDeleteYou have never heard of a fighter with a bout tentatively scheduled if he wins?
Tentatively scheduled is more reason for judgment to be swayed. I know the judges gave Tucker the win for that exact reason. So he could represent Maryland Boxing on TV. It's all business. Armenta you won that fight and that belt belongs to you.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a rematch done in VA or DC.
ReplyDeleteWould Tucker be up for that?
I wonder how many of these negative posts are from that Punk Tony Jeter?
ReplyDeleteJeter needs to shave that stupid moustache--cm'mon dude
ReplyDeleteWhy bring up Jeter? It's Mark who is the sucker.
ReplyDeleteYou people are all crazy! Tony Jeter? the guy who has two losses in four rounders and never fought eight? Tucker has fought three experienced guys in ten rounders. Still don't get all you people saying it was a robbery. close fight that's all.
ReplyDeleteLMAO @ it must be Jeter everytime someone is exposed it must be Jeter you clowns make me laugh. Why would it be Jeter? Get a hobby!
ReplyDeleteAll this bad weather it must be Jeter doing this
ReplyDeleteMany years later and I still remember this fight and how tucker lost.
