Here is our first Beltway Boxing End-Of-Year Poll: Who is the fan's choice for Beltway Boxing Rookie of the Year for 2009?
We have some incredible candidates this year as I chose 10 from the 24 boxers that made their pro debut from November 2008-November 2009.
Here, in alphabetical order, are the candidates:
Abodurin "Bo" Akinyanju, heavyweight, Washington, DC (2-0, two KO's, is scheduled to fight on December 19)
Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm, heavyweight, Washington, DC (4-0, three KO's, is scheduled to fight on December 19)
Alex Guerrero, cruiserweight, Salisbury, MD (2-0)
Robert "Rated X" Reed, super middleweight, Washington, DC (2-0, two KO's)
Juan "The Savior" Rodriguez, welterweight, Haymarket, VA (3-0, three KO's)
Gary Russell, Jr., featherweight, Capitol Heights, MD (5-0, two KO's)
Emmanuel "Transformer" Taylor, welterweight, Baltimore, MD (4-0, four KO's, scheduled to fight December 11)
Barry Trotter, middleweight, Columbia, MD (2-0, one KO)
Dominic Wade, super middleweight, Largo, MD (5-0, five KO's)
Steve "Show Stealer" Wheeler, cruiserweight, Columbia, MD (4-0, three KO's)
Please try to vote with your heads and not your hearts. This is the first of three fan polls I will put up this month. The other two will be for Prospect of the Year and Beltway Boxer of the Year.
4-0 4 ko's
ReplyDelete5-0 5 ko's.

Power in both hands;
It has to be either wade or taylor. taylor 4-0 4 ko's and wade 5-0 5 ko's

ReplyDeleteguerrero alex, please like fernando they fight guys with losing records.both are tomatoe cans....duck and dodge real boxers.
ReplyDeleteA question for Caligula, who has Fernando ever ducked. And who do u think is better than fernando around here, dont let ur own personal feelings cloud ur decision making.
ReplyDeletewe'll see soon just how good fernando is when he fights Nicklow.
ReplyDeleteShane Mosely and Bernard Hopkins have just purchased a table for the December 19th. fights at Rosecroft. Someone must be signed with Golden Boy or they are looking at a boxer who is on the card.
ReplyDeleteThursday,
If that is true, than they are looking at Seth Mitchell, who is a Golden Boy signee.
ReplyDeleteDominic Wade is an absolute monster! I'd have to go with him. Taylor is very good too but I notice they are keeping him away from anybody who can crack an egg.
ReplyDeleteI saw Byarm fight a few times he likes to bring it
How about a fight with Taylor and Rodriguez.
ReplyDeleteMy pick would be Taylor by Ko third round.
Just a thought.
I would go with Wade or Russell, both have been very impressive, and they are fighting on a national stage, not like the other's who seem to only fight in Maryland?
ReplyDeleteNicklow will not be a test for Fernando, Fernando should run thru him easily. He is a more skilled boxer, and has fought at a steadier pace, and faces better competition in his own gym.
ReplyDeleteManny Taylor by far.
ReplyDeleteI think D-Wade has started off very impressively, but G-Russell is the best boxer by far to come out of the area this year
ReplyDeleteLIL GARY SHAPE WITH IT BUT HE DONT HAVE ALL KNOCK OUTS LIKE WAVE OR TAYLOR
ReplyDeleteuntil fernando fight in baltimore an wash d.c. boxers.2 me he will always be a t a m o t o e can.plain an simply.so u not going 2 change my find .thank you.but the way, i not inpress with who he fought yet.when he do i will give respect.now n o. stop fighting bums an has beens .u know the deal.
ReplyDeleteByarm is a great candidate. He brings back excitement and that extra something that has been missing in a lot of heavyweights.
ReplyDeletewade should get this hands down. very explosive fighter.knock outs with either hand.
