DC super featherweight Ron "Teflon" Boyd will be involved in a six-round feature bout against Irvington, NJ knockout artist Francisco "The Phenom" Contreras on Saturday, October 10th at the Arena Theatre in Houston, TX.
After winning five of his first six bouts, Boyd (6-8, two KO's) has only won once in his last eight contests, including battles against Tyrell Samuel (twice) and Ikem Orji. Boyd's only win in that stretch came against Dean White on February 20th in Westminster, MD. Boyd was knocked out in his last outing by Guillermo Sanchez in the first round on June 19 in Buffalo, NY.
Chet Koerner, president of TKO Promotions (who is promoting this card) said in a press release that Boyd is "amongst the toughest fighters in the Baltimore/D.C. area. While Francisco has the punching power, Boyd has an immense wealth of experience in dealing with all types of fighters. Both of his fights against Tyrell Samuel were real throwback bouts with neither warrior taking a step back.”
It may be considered a moral victory if Boyd avoids getting knocked out by Contreras because he will be the first Contreras opponent to do so. The native of the Dominican Republic (10-0, 10 KO's) made his American debut in Glen Burnie, MD on June 18 and stopped Gustavo Mejia in the first round. In his last outing on August 27, Contreras knocked out Julian Rodriguez in the second round in Hagerstown, MD.
Boyd do you think it's time to fight 8 rd fights yet?
ReplyDeleteActually, Boyd fought two ten-rounders against Tyrell Samuel.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching Boyd against Orji, I think John Ruiz is exciting.
