Free Amateur Boxing Show October 9 at Rosecroft!

It turns out that Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD will host a weekend of amateur boxing this weekend. Not only will the all-female boxing card take place on Saturday, October 10, but there will also be a free amateur show sponsored by Old School Boxing on Friday, October 9 .

Teams from DC, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania will be participating in this event. Again, the event is absolutely free.

  1. Damn! I remember in the 70's they had free shows. I can also remember $2.00 shows at Hillcrest.
Thanks Digital! We need a break every once in awhile.

  5. YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!! This is great! Thank you so much Old School and Rosecroft. In the past, I would normally support most of the shows but since the economy has gone upside down it's been a bit challenging. My two sons will absolutely love this. See you guys on Friday!!!

  13. NOT ME, I WISH ALL SHOWS WERE FREE.
MOST OF US DO NOT LIVE IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY. WE NEED THIS FOR OUR YOUNGINS. HOPE YOU GUYS DO IT AGAIN CLOSE TO CHRISTMAS. TOO MUCH GREED WILL KILL A SHOW FAST.
ASK MILLIAGAN ABOUT HIS PHILLY SHOWS BEFORE HE MOVED HERE. HE SCREWED UP BY ASKING TOO MUCH MONEY RFROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE HARDLY NOTHING>

  14. Is this a open sparring session like last time.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would hope so, for the rounds are longer and each kid is permitted to spar as much as he or she likes. I did notice last time that the majority of boxers were decked out in their personalized boxing trunks with matching jersey.
Some even came out in robes and to a song they picked out from the DJ.
It's crazy but I must admit I had a great time and everyone loved it.
The word is that the fool has ring girls for this event. Early Christmas present for me and Kawi.
We cannot afford to dish out dollars at the local strip joint.
We went to the all female show last time and that was a very classy show. We were expecting to see some Kim Kardashins running around but we had trouble figuring out if the boxers were female or male. The fights were great even if the girls looked extremely boyish.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The lady fights are terrific! Trust me, I was at the last one.
Yes I too had trouble with the rough look and facial hair, but I was there to see good fights and that it what I got. If I wanted to see beauty I would have went to a swimming event. If you like boxing, the $30.00 at the door will mean nothing after seeing these girls fight.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Does the free friday show have girls too?

    ReplyDelete
  18. From what I gather, Philly has 4 girls and they are matched with 4 local girls from Baltimore and Books and Boxing. 2 juniors and 2 novice. The better show for watching girls would be sat night at the same place.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree with you, but I cannot complain about a free show with free food and free parking.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I am taking a date and she's not that bright anyway. I told her that I purchased ringside tickets for the two of us. I will get their early friday, grab two seats up front and miss dummy will never know. I maight even place a card on the table that reads:
Reserved for the Stroomes. Get her a glass of Wild Irish Rose for $1.25 and I am now Mr. P-Diddy.
I can hear her now monday morning at work: Oh Stroomie took me to the fights friday and he got us ringside tickets and they served us wine straight from Ireland.
Dear God, please don't let her read Boxing Along The Beltway!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. P Diddy-Wild Irish Rose-Reserved for the Strooms, Ringside Seats.
OMG I heard it all now./

  22. I would not miss friday for nothing in the world. LMAFO

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wonder what his date looks like?

    ReplyDelete
  25. she looks like Ester on Sanford & Son.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Free Friday Fights! Too good to be true. Only time will tell. The DJ must be a transister radio. I hope his battiers do not run out.

    ReplyDelete
  27. People will still complain even though it's free entertaiment.
How much to rent the building?
    rent the ring?
    hire a DJ?
    free food?
    free parking?
    labor?
    ring girls?
    awards?
I am going friday and saturday.
    Hear from me monday morning"

    ReplyDelete
  44. HOPE THEY DO NOT RUN OUT OF BEER!

    ReplyDelete
  45. BOXING & BEER DO NOT MIX TOO GOOD!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I spoke to Greg and he is staying at the Gaylord Nation in the Washington Harbor. I take it-that is the host hotel?

    ReplyDelete
  47. No that's not the host hotel; however, Philly and North Carolina are staying there. It is extremely close to the venue(Rosecroft)
Raymond who works there in the daytime said there are quite a few boxers there who are particpating on the Friday night fights at Rosecroft.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hope they got big security!!!
Drunks, Card-girls, and boxing do not mix.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Is this going to be a show or sparring?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Looks like you guys up North need a football stadium for this event,
I will not be able to make this one, but good luck to you all. You guys are doing a great job getting boxers plenty of work. We do nothing of the sort down here.
Dirty South Boy's be riding high with 30's

it sounds like u all r a bunch of male chavenist pigs. u never even mentioned the girls show that is in the same state the very next night. remember girls have now been accepted into the olympics. give em break'

    ReplyDelete
  55. ITS NOT THAT WE DONT LIKE GIRL FIGHTING-WE DO. BUT $35.00 VS FREE-MOST OF US WILL GO FREE FIRST ANYTIME. BY THE WAY-NEW YORK-I TOO WENT TO PS 83 IN 1974

    ReplyDelete
  56. MAA sucks! They cannot draw crowds like this. Boxing is more exciting with more skills and obviously more
organized. MAA is for skin heads.

    ReplyDelete
  57. i got a head that u can skin.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You two can duke out tonight at Rosecroft. I hope they have atleast two rings set up. Never seen people so into something like this before. Who would come from out-of-town to watch sparring? I live in Va but that dont count.
Im coming with Willie Taylor's crew so you guys better be on point. Someone is kissing the canvas and it wont be Raymond Griemo - thats for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  59. FYI... THE ALL FEMALE AMATEUR BOXING SHOW ON THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY AT THE SAME VENUE IS NOT... NOT... $30.00.

It's only $20.00 Adults/General Admission and $10.00 for kids under 8. VIP is $40 and includes buffet.

    ReplyDelete
  60. i don't kno about anyone else but my pockets are not doing well. i'll be there tonight but not on saturday. i hear there are females on the free show too. sorry but times are tough.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Listen! I know you cheapsters are complaining about the $40.00 VIP seats for the all girl show, but do you have any idea what it takes to put on a show? HELL! you spend $40.00 going out for dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  62. u must of fell out your nest.
    40 feet high!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Im going to both shows-the free one and the forty dollar one. That averages out to 20 a peice for each show. not bad considering thats what everyone else charges anyway. plus, you get what you pay for. For example, the shirts they are giving away free on friday night are cheap as shit. on the other hand-the shirts they are selling on sat night are durbale and you can wash them more than once.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Who is the retard that opened this can or worms up? Why did you start up about the cost? You made things horrible for the girls. You need to leave well enough alone.
The all girl show is terrific and everyone who went last time-enjoyed themselves. So what that someone was off by $5 dollars. We will still see you box-dont worry.
You did well last time and Im sure you will again this time. Go out there give it your best-we love you regardless.

    ReplyDelete
  65. hey steroti can i borrow hot dog money tonight? i will have the red and blue polo shirt with 2 small kids. or should i call you money bags?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Holy Shit! Just returned from the Free Friday Fights. Three boxers were knocked out cold. Obviously over-matched. They were a total of 42 bouts and the show finally ended at 11:20pm. Gyms came as far as PA,VA,WV and NC. Music was very good but too loud; could not hear the bell ring. Food was good until they sold out. Too crowded, but still could see the fights from all angles. Ref did a great job with the exception of the 3 min rounds. Too long for the youngsters.
The girls fights were ok but just not exciting enough. The ring board cracked towards the end of the night but no one was hurt. Beer was watered down, I drank 5 and never felt a thing. I will be back on Dec 12th. for the Open class fights. Hope its free too...

    ReplyDelete
  67. Next show Dec 12th. at Rosecroft
