Lange Successfully Defends WBC USNBC Title!

Great Falls, VA junior middleweight Jimmy Lange scored a ninth-round TKO over Jonathan Reid of Nashville, TN to successfully defend his WBC USNBC Junior Middleweight title tonight at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.

Both boxers mixed boxing and brawling throughout the contest. Lange was more successful landing the left jab but Reid took control at times when the bout became more of a brawl.

Lange dropped Reid with a right hand in the fourth round to take control of the contest. As the bout wore on, Reid was having trouble seeing out of his right eye. Lange dropped Reid with a overhand right late in the eighth round. After surviving the ninth, the Reid corner stopped the contest with their boxer on the stool.

Lange is now 31-3-2, 21 KO's while Reid is now 34-12, 19 KO's.

In the co-feature, former WBO Junior Welterweight champion DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley made a strong and successful return to the Beltway region, winning by eight-round unanimous decision over Harrison Cuello of Albany, NY.

Corley's experience shone through in this contest as the DC native was poised and in complete control. Corley, who came to ringside astride a motorcycle followed by his children who wore motorcycle helmets, dropped Cuello in the first round and was not fazed by Cuello's dancing antics in the ring. The judge's scorecards were 80-71, 79-72 and 78-73 for Corley, who has won five of his last six and is now 36-11-1, 21 KO's while Cuello is 18-12, five KO's.

This card also had what will probably end up being the Knockout of the Year along the Beltway. Columbia, MD middleweight Tony "Mo Better" Jeter scored a vicious, one-punch, referee-didn't-even-bother-to-count knockout over Prince Frederick, MD's Keith Gross. Here is a great shot of the punch taken, appropriately, by Linda "Great Shot" Siadys.

Gross came out charging against Jeter from the opening bell and tried to land a punch. Once Gross gave Jeter some space, the right hand from Jeter landed and dropped Gross quickly to the canvas. Referee Chris Wollesen immediately waved the bout off at 1:22 of the round.

Jeter is now 8-2, seven KO's while Gross, who suffered his second straight first-round knockout loss, is now 3-2, one KO.

There was a slight surprise in the card as undefeated Arlington, VA lightweight "The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal was held to a six-round draw by the rugged Richard "Tiger" Lee Hall of Rocky Mount, NC.

Jargal may have received a gift in the draw as he was constantly pressured by the veteran Hall from the third round on. Jargal landed his familiar body attack, but could not keep Hall off of him. Afterwards, representatives of the Jargal camp told BATB that their boxer had been under the weather for the past week and probably should have pulled out of the contest.

Jargal, however, remains undefeated and is now 13-0-2, nine KO's. Hall is now 12-21-3, 10 KO's.

In women's action, Manassas, VA featherweight "The Bolivian Queen" Jennifer Salinas survived a late-bout knockdown to win a six-round split decision over Caitlin Dance of Louisville, KY.

Salinas had difficulty with her much taller opponent, however Dance did not use her height fully to her advantage. Instead of using her jab, Dance chose to smother Salinas. Dance, however, did land a punch that made Salinas stumble and fall. Although the Salinas camp thought it was a slip, Referee Michelle Myers called it a knockdown.

That was enough to sway judge Mark D'Antonini, who scored the bout for Dance, 58-56. Judges Brian Costello and Joe Gradowski scored the bout 58-56 and 57-56, respectively for Salinas, whose record rises to 11-1, three KO's. Dance is now 2-6, one KO.

Other results on the card:

Oxon Hill, MD light heavyweight Alexander "The Great" Johnson won a four-round unanimous decision over "The African Warrior" Francois Ambang of Richmond, VA. This is the second time Johnson has beaten Ambang in his career. Johnson is 7-0, three KO's while Ambang is 2-4.

DC welterweight Kendrick "Holy Hands" Walker and Richmond's Dwayne "Diesel" Shelton fought to a four-round draw. Walker is now 2-2-2, one KO while Shelton is 2-1-1.

In another exciting curtain-raising bout, Columbia, MD middleweight Barry Trotter won a four-round unanimous decision over a very game Tracy Brewer of Arlington, VA. If we had a best four-round Beltway Bout of the Year, this one, along with last night's bout in Westminster between Omar Sims and Alan Perkins, would be a prime candidate. Trotter dropped Brewer in the third round as both men traded right hands. It's hard to say what kept Brewer going until the final bell.

Trotter is 2-0 while Brewer suffers his first loss and he is 3-1, one KO.

The card was promoted by ICE Promotions, who is led by Jackie Kallen. The matchmaker was JD Brown. Among the boxing luminaries in attendance were former middleweight world champions Keith Holmes and William Joppy, current three-time world champ Paul "The Punisher" Williams (who also made the trip to Westminster the night before), former lightweight contender (and like Jeter, current newlywed) Jaime "The Punisher" Palma, middleweight prospect Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow and cruiserweight Robert "Mac Attack" McConnell, Jr.

Here is the BATB Post-Fight Wrap-Up Show that, due to cell phone difficulties on site, had to be recorded at BATB Headquarters.

  1. Old School's Barry Trotter and Jerry Jones make one hell of a team. Barry you looked great! You looked even better than you do on Wedensday Night Warzone. Keep up the good work-prove them all wrong.

  5. I heard Lange got dropped in the fight, is that true?

Uh, no. It was Reid who got dropped, twice. Lange did take an awful lot of punishment, though, and spent more time on the ropes than he has in an awfully long time.

  6. Not exactly the best performance for Lange since Reid had lost 10 out of his last 11 fights and got tagged way more than he should have from a guy that basically had no legs after the 4th round.

Whatever, the crowd doesn't know any better and he puts on good undercards so I'll ignore it.

I was surprised by the performance of Salinas and Jargal because I know both are better than they appeared last night.

  10. By far the best card Ihave seen in years in this area that undercard was second to none.Lange fought a good fight Reid got up for him and fought a great fight .I was glad to hear Jargal was under the weather which led to his performance he won the first three rounds easy then the wheels came off he looked real weak and now I understand why he didn't finish strong. This was a very professional card glad I went.

It was a good show though and Im not mad at Lang hes okay. I just wish they would stop acting like he all that cause he not. If hes world champion mateiral he should stop Nicklow and Rivera. Whats he afraiid of.

  17. Joey doesn't have the courage to post his name anymore. He got his butt in a tight spot over the last few months. He pissed off Johnny Lange, Tony Jeter, Jessie Nickelow, and Justin Ridgeway. Now that he has to answer for his and his fighters mouth he is trying to disappear. Too bad for him no one will ever forget about it. Joe give us your wonderful insight on the way everything has played out. When is your next card? Are you going to try andkeep Sigmon away from Ridgeway? Are you actually going to back your talk up anymore? Tony Jeter looked great I am sure he would beat Sigmon too!

that would be great let's make it happen

  23. If we take the words of Johnny Lange during the post-fight press conference, Lange-Rivera won't happen any time soon.

Johnny Lange said that he and the rest of Jimmy Lange's camp are looking for fighters who have fought for titles or have won titles.

My opinion, A Lange-Rivera bout is a no-win situation for the Lange camp. This isn't about money in this case. A Lange-Rivera bout probably draws well in this area. This is about where the Lange camp wants their fighter to go.

I just don't think -- as much as I would love to see it -- a Lange-Rivera bout happens anytime soon. Rivera needs Lange more than Lange needs Rivera.

  25. Lange showed heart grit and Ball$ Saturday night. He is lookingfor bigger fighs with guys who won titles and fought for titles.

WEll I know a fighter that fits the "fought for world title criteria" and would love a chance to fight Jimmy Lange at 160 lbs.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let me tell you something you anonymous coward, I don't have a problem with Justin Ridgway or Jesse Nicklow. But Johnny Lange is a piece of garbage and Tony Jeter is a jackass! Throw in Don Elbaum and those are the ONLY 3 people in boxing that I don't get along with. But I can assure you, those guys have far more enemies than they have friends, so I am one among many who consider those three to be a trifecta of terds in the boxing world.

I'm not trying to take over this thread, and I haven't posted one damn thing on this subject so this will probably be the only thing I will say. And I will definitely not respond to any more anonymous posts from you cowards taking gutless potshots at me.

Congratulations to Jimmy Lange on the win. He's not a bad guy and he's not a bad fighter and I'm sure he will fight anybody that they put in front of him. But what Johnny Lange did to us by stealing the Jonathan Reid fight from our camp is lower than low and it's something I won't ever forget. There are only three promoters in Virginia that are active: Scott Farmer, Lange, and myself, and what Johnny Lange did was completely unnecessary and unconscienable. I have always been a proponent of working together, not against each other. My records speaks for that. Now if Lange ever wants to make a fight between Jimmy and George Rivera, we'll be ready. They are saying they want to go in a different direction and that's their right to do so. But if they ever do fight we can do it up there on their show or we can do it anywhere else on my show. I can promote it, they can promote it. It makes no difference to us.

Tony Jeter, congratulations on your victory. But I know it's you continually taking anonymous potshots at me. But unlike you I actually have the balls to sign my name to a post. You weighed 163 for the fight with Gross. Cujo said he would fight you at 160. You were one of the greatest amateurs of all time, right? You were signed with Sugar Ray Leonard, right? Cujo had 9 amateur fights and he said he would meet your weight. What are you afraid of with all of your incredible power? I know what you're afraid of. Cujo will wreck you beyond repair, he will retire you. If you were a car you would be totaled after the fight, you'd be done. Cujo is a surly motherfu*cker anyway, plus he doesn't like you very much. I don't care for you either. Anytime, anyplace, anywhere Jeter. And we'll see exactly how much power you've got! Of course, this is after Ridgway and we plan on getting the details of that fight done in a couple of weeks.

    Thanks,

    Joe H

  27. "Lange's camp are looking for fighters who have fought for titles or have won titles."

You forgot to add - "that are on at least a 5 or 6 fight losing streak and have trouble intelligently defending themselves after getting hit a few times."

  28. I went to high school with Joe Hensley. Joe was caught stealing money from students out of their gym lockers. Joe used to skip gym class and sneak into the locker room, pry open lockers and steal wallets. He stole my wallet, which had $100 in it. Hensley got caught with a stash of wallets in his school locker, over 50 of them, one of them mine. Joe is as bad as they come. Don't trust anything he says or does.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Seven years ago, I loaned Joe Hensley $5,000 so he could buy a car. Hensley practically begged me for the money, pleading for help so that he could get back and forth to work and earn a living. Like Scott Flynn on the previous post, I knew Hensley from high school and foolishly trusted him. We did it on a handshake with Hensley promising he would pay me back in full in 6 months. Hensley has yet to pay me back. Over the years he has made so many promises to pay -- all lies. Hensley is a good for nothing bum.

  33. Knockout is very nice punch. Tony, I am a fan. However, time is runnning on you. You need to fight frequently and against increasingly more difficult opposition. If you were 24, it would be another issue but Father time is about to count you out. Nice to see you back in the ring. Oh, yeah, you drop your right when you jab and your left when you throw the right hand. Best of luck. Oh, and Joe suspect coward takes another definition if it were arranged for you to show up in the ring to spar with Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Its really sad listening to a grown azz man pounding his chest talking another man up about how surly he is. If you dislike Jeter so much you fight him. I am so sick and tired of the posts about your beefs with Jeter, and then I never see Jeter posting a damn thing how do you know it’s him!? Cujo needs to be worried about Ridgway, in my humble opinion.

Its also not Langes job to get and SECURE fights for Rivera it is YOUR job. If YOU lost a fight to Lange, YOU should be kicking YOUR own self in the ass not on here complaining about this, that, and third. This isn't checkers this is chess and you need to be prepared for the worse. You are talking about enemies and friends well fortunate for them this isn't a popularity contest, this is boxing and personalities will and do clash. Who the hell cares who likes who?

Finally I am sure you are a fine promoter but its apparent Lange is just on another level and there is nothing wrong with that. For every NBA there is a Developmental league, for every NFL there is a CFL, that’s the way of the world. Lange has developed a product he has been meticulous, cunning and I am sure sometimes conniving, however why would he throw all that down the drain. Why would his fighter accept that? Of course he is going to move on that’s called being smart. He sounds like he has much bigger plans than to put on club shows that only the local audience would be interested in. He wants to speak to the much bigger national boxing audience. This I am sure you will agree is what’s best for everybody most notably his fighter.

Anyway I wish all promoters (D-league or otherwise) the best in their endeavors, as well as all boxers and fans. I hope Lange gets the big title fight as I would love to see a big fight come to the area.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What would a DMV mega show look like in regards to match-ups? Ideally matching local fighters against each other.

Lange and Chop on top in seperate bouts. Joppy, Holmes, there are some top level fighters around.

  40. Jack - that's obviously not your real name because you don't know JACK!

Ever heard of Farah Fuckin' Ennis? Undefeated stud and the only guy Cujo lost to and that was in his 2nd pro fight. By all accounts Cujo was closing the show strong and won the last round and had Ennis holding on for dear life. Ennis is legit, Ridgway is a pretender and Jeter is a legend in his own mind.

If Ennis couldn't drop Cujo or even hurt him what makes you think Ridgway or Jeter even have a chance?

I'm not saying Cujo is pretty to watch but he is effective, tough as hell, in tremendous condition, and seems to be impossible to hurt.

Jeter could hit Cujo with the same right hand he hit Gross with 500 times and Cujo would just grin at him and keep coming forward. But then in about the third or fourth the ass kicking from Cujo would begin and Jeter would be tired, he would be holding on, he couldn't catch his breath, he'd start getting hit with more and more punches, and he would finally give in. He'd probably quit between rounds but if he came out for say the 5th he'd get knocked out for sure. Same with Ridgway, his only chance is to get Cujo out of there in the first round and unless that sumbitch has the power of a young Mike Tyson, that just ain't happening.

  41. If Tiger Lee Hall, who ain't bad but he's not great either, gave Jargal fits, Farmer will knock him out. Underestimate Farmer, but that guy is a fighter - skilled with a legitimate mean streak. Farmer wants to go in there and kick your ass. Sick or not, Jargal had has hands full. Don't forget he was almost knocked out by a guy with a similar record as Hall's, Reggie somebody, not too long ago. I like Jargal, I hope he does well, but he is FAR from the monster everyone thinks he is. Farmer is the real propsect from VA at that weight class, not Jargal.

    ReplyDelete
  42. why are you trying to hate on jargal can't there be two prospects from virginia,D.C. had simon brown and blocker, joppy and holmes, and I think that both fighters are going in there own directions were they may never meet so get over hating and praise both fighters

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm not hating on him, he's a decent fighter. He's just not the killer everyone around here thinks he is. Tough fighter - yes. Fun to watch - yes. Legitimate prospect for a world title - no. That's not hate, that's real.

Farmer on the other hand has gotten a lot of bad shit said about him in the last few years. He's just as tough as Jargal, which is saying a lot. Plus, he has more skills. I see he's fighting Belasco coming up. I think Farmer will stop him.

    ReplyDelete
  44. McCombs, I am beginning to believe you are punch drunk. WHO DID YOU EVER BEAT? YOU CANT GET A FIGHT BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT A PROFESSSIONAL FIGHTER.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Cujo is oh so powerful. Not!!!!!! Either one of the guys mentioned above will hurt him, and hurt him bad.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Didn't say Cujo is powerful, I said he's impossible to hurt and he doesn't get tired. He's powerful enough when he gets your ass tired and that's more than good enough for Ridgway or Jeter. Believe me, they don't want none, and if they do they are in for a huge surprise. I think Ridgway will fight him but I think Jeter won't step up to the plate, no matter what the weight.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Cujo is as tough as a punching bag and about as smart if he thinks simply taking punches on the chin is gonna win a fight with Jeter or whoever can actually fight.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cujo can't be hurt????? Really Alex dill staggered him several times. I was at winchester to watch Jargal fight, and happen to catch Ridgeway's fight..... I can tell you he has enough power to put you down if he lands anything flush. I think he has along way to come to be great, but if he hits Cujo it is going to hurt him. Jeter also looked like he could punch when I saw him at the Patriot Center, so either of those guys could present a lot of trouble to anybody they land shots on. Whoever fights Cujo will have to be in superb shape to beat him. He pressures a lot of people and some guys can't handle that.

I know he gets two three thousand people at the arena but those same people arent lighting up BATB whenever they see a Lang article. I find that interesting. If anything 99% of what is posted about Lang by readers of BATB is negative. But obviously somebody believes the hype because they come out to watch the shows myself included. I come out because Im a boxing fan and I enjoy the sport. Althoug I thought about staying home and watching Klisko fight. I get the cheapest ticket I can and move closer during the night. There weree lots of older people on the floor or at least their older than me Im in my twenties. I would say that most of the people that read this site are in their teens 20s and 30s or they are hardcore fans. It also looks like people involved in the sport read the site and post and I enjoy that. Just and observation. It dooesnt look like people that go to Langs fights are really boxing fans or readers of BATB. Not knocking BATB Im a hardcore boxing fan and I read it almost every day just an observation.

  55. Oh meant to say that Barry Trotter was very impressive. Hes a guy that in 4 years can have a world title. I was looking forward to Jargal bc Id never seen him fight but was not impressed. The best fighter on the show was Corley although hes not what he used to be. The rest of the guys including the main event were good solid pros nothing special but not bad either.

  56. LMAO @ MCCOMBS BROUGHT HIS GEAR??????? The boxing commission for one wouldn't allow it to be used due to it being so antiquated. I am hoping that was a joke about bringing your gear. I guess you planned on bypassing the commission and the whole weigh in and just get too it. Why is it so hard for you to get on a card? Here are a few reasons I could think of

    1. Because you haven't done anything relevant to boxing, besides post on this blog, since 2002.

    2. You can't sell any tickets

    3. Good chance you will pull out for whatever reason

    4. Your last two fights you were STOPPED IN THE FIRST ROUND

McCombs move on man its sad to watch this !!!!!!!

  57. Old School Whiteboy - Im not saying Cujo cant be beat he can by somebody that has skill and can keep a high rate of activity. He does get hit alot and he got hit alot by Farah Ennis. But Ennis is legit and he has legit power and skill and Cujo was coming on at the end. Jeter wont be active enough and he will try to land a big punch to hurt Cujo and then stop him. That wont happen it just wont Jeter or Ridgway cant punch like Ennis and Ennis had has hands full. Same with Ridgway. Looking at his Boxrec he fought Aughtrey and didnt stop him and I dont think he knocked him down. Gross didnt hurt Augtrey either. And Jeter stopped Gross with one shot. Really neither guy has a chance Cujo takes both of those guys.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Trotter looked good albeit against a guy whose opponents were a combined 0-7. Not taking anything away from the guy but can't overlook the obvious either. I was impressed with Hall, and Reid given his recent history surprised me Lange was in trouble a few times.

    ReplyDelete
  59. BINGO! you said a fighter who has skill Jeter or Nicklow with their extensive amatuer backgrounds would box Cujo's ears off. Just because a guy isn't throwing a thousand punches a round doesn't mean he is not busy enough to keep him off. Both guys are effective skilled punchers. If you think Cujo could take that punch Gross took, where he took it you are delusional. If you look at the video and listen you can hear a pop when he catches him. It sounded like he busted his glove when he hit him. I don't care who you are you get hit that hard that clean your brain is going to definitely rattle. I am sure Cujo can take a punch, just not that punch. I will say its all a moot point because it looks like Cujo got Ridgway next, and its doubtful he is talking as much shit after that one.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Aughtrey ran the whole fight from Ridgeway (literally turning his back and running away). Ennis is not as big and strong as Ridgeway. I use to frequent the LA Boxing gyms in nova, and have seen Ridgeway spar. I also spoke to Darnell Wilson about him and was told he has serious power. I think after all the rude comments Cujo made about his wife he is in for a a fight like he has never had. I think Cujo crossed the line with his mouth this time, and I am hoping to see him pay for his talking. Please keep updated to date of fight and venue.

  61. Horseshit! Let me break it down for you like this on an A to an F schedule for Cujo:

    Boxing ability: D
    Power: C
    Conditioning: A+
    Chin: A+
    Toughness: A+
Overall meanness and a want to get in that ass attitude: A++++++

    Here it is for Jeter:

    Boxing Ability: C
    Power: C
    Conditioning: C
Chin: D (knocked out COLD by old journeyman)
    Toughness: D
    Overall meanness: C

Prognosis: Jeter ZERO chance with Cujo

    Ridgeway:

    Boxing ability: C
    Power: C
    Conditioning: ?
    Toughness: ?
Overall meanness: I do believe based on whatt he has said that Ridgeway wants a big piece of that ass: A

Prognosis: If Ridgway gets him in two he has a chance. After 2 thats his ass.

  62. A couple of comments, the guy that said that the Patriot Center was full of older people is right on. I think the people at the fight were Lange fans and not boxing fans. Also, I agree with the post, Lange fans aren't really reading this site.

To the person, and to me it looks like a lady, that said that somebody needs to get a hotel room, this is Lange's topic, do not disturb. I don't see hardly any Jimmy Lange comments and it's not like if people are posting about Jargal, Jeter, Cujo, and whoever else they are keeping the Lange people from posting. All I'm saying is that it doesn't look like people care about Jimmy Lange on this website. To the guy that made that observation that was pretty sharp.

  63. Tell me this Mr. Joey Scumbag, if Cujo is suck a tough guy why in the world did he not take that $10.000.00 payday to fight Adonis Stevenson? He has such a chin??? Wasn’t he on skates against Taurus Brewer in the later rounds? Just asking. No hard feelings Joey.

  64. I am sure there are a lot of BATB's that don't feel the desire to post. Many read to follow news, get info, and possibly don't even step into the comments.

This area's boxing community is a small community everyone knows everyone, They talk offline and often save many opinions, assessments, gossip, business, whatever face to face. As such they take care of real boxing business offline.

Many are respectful & loyal to this site and the integrity of it's core purpose.

You obviously have issues with Lange, to the point I think you should consider therapy.

    ReplyDelete
  65. really thats how you grade it out????

    Jeter Power = C

It is obvious you're just green with envy. Anybody who knows anything about boxing can tell you that is just ridiculous. Furthermore to think getting online and running on about how your going to clean up boxing makes your toughness a A+++++++ as you put it get out of here. It is obvious you are going off pure raw emotions.

How you give a guy an edge in boxing ability and rounds in the ring but go on to say he has zero chance is crazy. This is of course boxing, not street fighting. To be honest if Johnson would have been in better shape when they fought he would have beat Cujo.

"Cujo wants a big piece of that ass" huh?! I don't know if Jeter is mean outside the ring but he does have a mean right hand, and he is a finisher. 8 wins 7 by KO and a C for power HILARIOUS

that grading system gets an "F"

    ReplyDelete
  66. also that tough guy was called out by another boxer over and over and over again and still has not answered the bell

I think its Cujo's turn to scratch

  67. WHOS CUJO? I think everybody knows who Jimmy Lange and Tony Jeter and Jessie Nicklow are but WHO IS CUJO?

  71. CONGRADS JIMMY AND TONY AND REST OF CARD FOR A GREAT NIGHT OF BOXING.

    ReplyDelete
  72. No - Bed Wetter Jeter's opponents get an F not the grading system.

Combined win loss records for Jeter's opponents when he fought them: 23 wins 57 losses 4 draws

Combined win loss record for Ridgeway's opponenet when he fought them: 0 and 6.

Combined win loss records for Cujo's opponents when he fought them:

    37 wins 14 losses

As far as Jeter's great knockout record the guys he beat had been knocked out a combined 25 times before they fought Jeter. Those aren't knockouts, those are mismatches.

Even James Shedrick, who beat Jeter and put him to SLEEP, had been stopped twice before fighting Jeter.

Those are the facts, look em up if you dont believe it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Alrighty then, rabid one. When are you going to get in touch with a good therapist???

Jeter shone and ROCKED the Patriot Center Saturday Night.

    Excellent KO Tony!

  76. Joey, you should concentrate on Justin and not Tony. Just my humble opinion. That is a fight you talked your way into and now you need to show the whole beltway area how tough you and your boy are. I know he was petrified of Adonis Stevenson. $10.000.00 really????? How mean is he?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well here is where you fail to understand where I was coming from. Your credibilty is questioned when you give him a C for power. Then you give him an edge in BOXING skill but still says he has zero chance to win a BOXING match with this guy.

I am not doubting Cujo is always in shape I am not doubting that he throws a ton of punches. I am not debating the quality of opponent one or the other has faced (oh and by the way that can be looked at a million ways for instance one guy Cujo fought Fillipino or something like that his combined opponents record was 0-8 does that discount that victory by Cujo). The fact is he knocked seven out of the eight out none past round number two. That tells me there was no accumulation of punches, even by your own admission he doesn't throw alot of punches, thats knockout power plain and simple thats not debatable.

I could care less what boxrec says my eyes don't lie and to blatantly discredit the mans punching power is silly.

That is why your grades get an "F" because the logic is flawed and the grader is biased.

Tony Jeter turned down an offer that could have made him $5,000 to fight Cujo in an 8 round fight! That's right, non-televised 8 rounder in the "sticks". You realize guys are fighting main events on ESPN or ShoBox for not much more money than that, right? Heck, that's more money than George Rivera AND Jesse Nicklow got for fighting each other in the rematch in Northern VA and you can't consider that area the "sticks". Old School Whiteboy, I've always thought you were Tony Jeter anyway, so man up and sign your real name the next time you post.

  93. Let me tell you about Jargal fellows. Anyone who has watched his fights knows he was off his game Saturday night. His punches had no pop from the beginning. He looked weak. It was definitely not him. anyone suggesting that Andrew Farmer could handle a healthy Jargal has lost it. Don't get me wrong I like Farmer, but he is local small potatoes. Jargal spars with world champions. Jargal has knockouts to his credit with body shots. Jargals opponent Saturday is a big, strong lightweight who has fought some outstanding fighters. i doubt, with all due respect, that Framer would last 3 rounds with that guy. I do not want to pit Jargal against Framer because Farmer has a legit career locally. Whats the point of getting a loss on his record, albeit a knockout loss. Jargal is on a different track entirely. Guys dont get it twisted, Jargal is dangerous as hell.

  94. Your freind Joe is a scumbag thats evident in the way he presents himself and his arguments. It was his decision to utilize this blog as a marketing tool. Only a scumbag would encourage his fighter to play a heel in an effort to motivate sales. What he and Cujo did was disgusting degrading, blindsiding, and disrespectful to all other boxers. He tried to be Don King and all he did was make Cujo and himself look like fools.

Everybody understands the grave danger boxers put themselves in everytime they step in the ring. Trust me you get what you give in life if you litter your house will be filled with trash eventually. He tried to litter the sport and this is what he gets in return. This reputation he now has he earned.

I respect Rivera for the way he has always handled himself and I hope he continues to operate above all this. Cujo unfortunately did not recieve the proper training as a child obviously as he continues to follow blindly his gutless leader.

Thanks to my friend who wrote one of the most recent posts. I know who you are and I am not, or would never be, mad at you. You know me well, I do have a little bit of a temper and when someone is a real as*hole with me, I'll call them an as*hole to their face, put it in writing on this blog, whatever. I have never been one to bite my lip and tuck my tail between my legs when treated poorly. You may call it a character flaw, I call it character.

I find it amusing that some people come on here to put me down and thump their chest anonymously but yet they are not willing to sign their name. What are you afraid of? What are you hiding? See, I'm not afraid of anything I've said because I know it's true, and the people involved know it's true. And as I said before, it was not my intention to take over this thread, I was simply responding to things that were said about me.

With that, I am done posting on this subject.

This sport has survived and on the east coast, you've kept a stronghold with your interest and ability that has permiated the sport even further. Gary, I wish you continued success, and want to thank you for the friendship that you have given to me and many others. It couldn't happen to a greater man. When I first met you I dubbed you "The Gary Williams", little did I know that your passion for boxing was at the forefront and led you to this diserved acclaim. 106. Part 1 from Joe H -

I said I was done but I have to answer this question to clear up any and all confusion and after this I am 100% done!

Don Elbaum - completely ripped me off for over $1,000 and I helped him out of a HUGE jam. Don calls me on a Thursday night April 21st, 2005 at about 7PM. He has a heavyweight making a pro debut by the name of Ivan Morton. The fight is the very next night in Philadelphia at The Blue Horizon. Elbaum tells me that Morton has sold over $6,000 in tickets and that Morton's opponent just pulled out of the fight. He asked me if I had somebody and at the time I was working with a heavyweight named LaJuan Henderson who was also making his pro debut. LaJuan had his Federal ID but he had nothing else, no bloodwork and no medicals. Now keep in mind that this is 7PM on Thursday night and the fight is the very next night in Philly. To add to this, I was supposed to catch a red eye flight from Norfolk VA that left at 5AM on Friday April 22nd. Elbaum tells me $2,500 for a 4 rounder and everyone knows that is great money for a 4 rounder. Henderson didn't have a car and Elbaum asked me if I could put him on a bus and send him to Philly. He also said he would reimburse me for the bus tickets. I live in Richmond, VA and LaJuan Henderson lives in Portsmouth, VA. I had to go to the Richmond, VA bus station and buy two tickets for LaJuan and his trainer ASAP because the last bus was leaving Portsmouth, VA at 9PM that night. I dropped what I was doing with my preparation for the flight early the next morning, went down to the bus station, bought two tickets and got LaJuan on the last bus to Philly. I then got up at 2AM after about 2 hours of sleep and drove down to Norfolk for my 5AM flight to California. I was taking two fighters, David Chappelle and Alex Mancera, to California. They had fights on Saturday night. Elbaum short changes Henderson to the tune of what would have been my cut of his purse. Of course I wasn't there because I was on my way to California with two other fighters. Also, Elbaum didn't reimburse me for the bus tickets which were around $200. Elbaum confirmed to me in later conversations that he held my cut out of Henderson's purse and that he would pay me ASAP. I tried for 6 months to get that money. That was 2005 and I haven't seen a dime since. I'll get that money eventually. I've never met him but one day we will meet and I'll get that money.

  107. Part 2 From Joe H -

Johnny Lange is a different ball game entirely. I can say many positive things about Lange and one of them is that we handled huge sums of money with each other and everything always added up to the penny! And this was on a handshake deal, not a written word between us. I thought Johnny was a guy I could trust implicitly. Johnny expressed some interest to me in Jimmy Lange fighting George Rivera. Of course I was all over that because I think George wins that fight. When the article came out about a possible Lange-Rivera matchup it was all done to promote what I thought would be a fight between the two. Johnny and I never discussed anything prior to the article and we didn't plan anything. The article was the brainchild of Chris Nicholson and I'm glad he wrote the article. I said, "Yes, George is going to get a shot at Jimmy Lange because of this!" Somewhere along the line Johnny Lange questioned my fighter directly. If you read my comments on this site I never referred to Jimmy directly until AFTER Johnny Lange said some negative stuff about George Rivera. My fighters will tell you, when I work with you you're family. Mess with my family and it's not a good thing for you. Rivera was supposed to fight Jonathan Reid on June 12th of this year in Virginia. The article on Lange vs. Rivera mentioned that George was supposed to fight Jonathan Reid. I had a signed contract from both parties and the fight is 100% a go. On Thursday June 11th Reid gets a back injury and pulls out of his fight with Rivera. The very next day Reid gets a contract to fight Jimmy Lange! I HAVE a copy of the contract and the date they sent Reid the contract was June 12th. Of course they talked to Reid well before sending him the contract. And yes, Reid received more money to fight Jimmy Lange than he would have received to fight George Rivera in June. So basically, my one and only problem with Johnny Lange is that he stole Jonathan Reid from my June 12th show to fight his son this past Saturday night. That hurt my June show because we had to return all the tickets George sold for the fight with Reid. George had also scheduled time off of work so he lost money there. George also lost the payday he was getting to fight Reid and we couldn't get anyone to fill in on short notice. Lange screwed us in a number of ways. If Johnny Lange will come on this site and admit that he stole Reid from my show, I'll drop the subject. I then decided to be the "lighning rod" in an effort to secure a fight for George vs. Jimmy. JD Brown told me George could fight Jimmy in November. That doesn't look like it's going to happen but we'll be ready for them any time, any place, anywhere. I have said numerous times that I would love to promote that fight. I think the people want to see it.

  108. Part 3 From Joe H -

Tony Jeter - I was the matchmaker for their show on 9/19/08 in Maryland. Jeter was part of a 4 team promotional group. Every other member of that crew is top notch, too bad they still aren't promoting. Part of the deal was putting Juan Robles and Todd Wilson on the show. Juan and Todd sold about 100 tickets to that show and I would say there were about 350 there. I put all of those guys in tough fights. Juan probably was the sharpest of his career and became the first guy to stop Tommy Washington, Jr. who was a full blown heavyweight. Juan weighed 195 pounds for that fight. Todd Wilson fought a tough as nails Mike Denby in what I believe was 2008's Runner Up for Fight of the Year on this very website.

  109. Part 4 from Joe H -

Putting Scott "CUJO" Sigmon on the show was actually Tony Jeter's idea. One of Tony's gym mates, Billy Johnson, needed an opponent and Tony suggested Cujo. Cujo and his Manager accepted the fight and it turned out to be a great fight which Cujo won by majority decision. I also didn't realize that Cujo had family in Maryland and he had about 50 people there to see him. So of the 350 people that were there 150 came to see our fighters. That card was incredibly hard to match. You had a female fight on the show, Shelly Sievert, and I know ZIP about female boxing. Everything I know about female boxing came from my experience on that show. You had Mark Tucker, Jr. on the show and he was stopping everybody in the first round. It was hard to get him matched and Carlos Jones became the first guy to get out of the first round with Tucker, Jr. We also put together a nice fight between Ikem Orji and Raymondo Elliott. I was proud of that show. And then you had Tony Jeter. Tony turned down everybody with a pulse and even some guys who had ZERO chance to beat him like Don Shrock. Look up his record and you tell me if you think that any boxer with any backbone at all would turn him down? Well Tony Jeter did! I am not exaggerating when I tell you Jeter turned down at least 20 guys that I suggested. Jeter also wanted me to submit some names to Pat Pannella, who is one of the two best commissioners in boxing (the other is Greg Sirb in PA) that were completely laughable. I would have looked like a real idiot and somebody that didn't know what he was doing if I submitted some of those names for approval. And then every five minutes Jeter would call me and ask me if I had somebody for him and then it was always the same thing, "You know I won this and that as an amateur. I beat this guy as an amateur, I won a million fights as an amateur. I was signed by Sugar Ray Leonard as a pro, blah, blah, blah." And then in the next breath he would say, "You've got to get me somebody to stretch (i.e. knockout). I want to hurt somebody and knock somebody out in devastating fashion. I want a banana and I want to knock somebody out cold!" Now listen, when you match guys you have house fighters that you're trying to protect so you hope they win. When I make matches, and I was taught by who I consider the best in the game today Nick Tiberi, you match a guy so that he has a 60-40 chance to win but it has to be competitive. And sometimes the other guy is going to win, that's just the way it goes and it should go that way to keep boxing a competitive, legitimate sport. Plus, I'm not a bloodthirsty guy. I hate to see a guy get knocked out and hurt. I like good, competitive fights that go the distance. Maybe that's just me, I don't know. Anyway, Jeter refused to fight anybody with a pulse. He wouldn't even fight John Terry (who had a personal beef with Tony at the time and I think would have made for a great fight with Tony) and Terry had a record of something like 2 and 12 at the time. Tony didn't think he could knock John out and he didn't want a "tough fight" at the time. To sum it up about Tony Jeter, to me he shouldn't be a boxer. This is a brave and noble sport and guys in both corners have families. Tony did not have to courage to fight a guy that may hit him a few times. To me that's not a boxer, that's a coward. Plain and simple that's why I don't like Tony Jeter.

And to everybody else - I LOVE YOU ALL!

    Thanks,

    Joe H

If you Lange stole the thunder of Rivera vs Reid. Then lange vs Rivera would make since. Lange I think your a good fighter. Rivera I think your a good fighter. As a boxing fan i would love to see it happen.

I have read above what the great Gary Willaims said about the bout Buttt

As a local boxing fan I would love to see it happen. Lange if you really did screw Joe's Camp the way the upper post indicates then you need or your should step-up and face Rivera.

Farmer and Jargal would be a little closer than some think.

Jargal-Hall draw. Jargal looked off Hall came to fight.

Farmer-Robbins UD Farmer. Robbins tested Farmer stayed right on his chest Farmer won a decision.

  120. I am just a fan, a big fan, but just a fan. Not a fighter, never tried to be or thought I could be. Have tremendous respect for anyone who climbs in the ring and puts it on the line. That said, Joe H, who I don't know is giving great insight into the game.

I know Jeter. Nice kid, was a good amatuer. However, what Joe says is accurate about him. Jeter got shell shocked by his first loss to Kwame Bumphus and sat it out for four years. Don't know what happened to Bumphus, must be in jail as he was 6-0 and hasn't fought since. Either way he flat out took Tony's heart. Tony sits it out 4 years!

Then he comes back and gets wrecked by a upside down fighter named Shedrick. This puts him on ice for three years. Not exactly showing alot of self confidence.

Now, at 34 Tony is fighting a bit, but he is, by all accounts, the most difficult guy to find a fight for because he only wants Glass Jaw Joes. Tony is a kid who can hit and has a good amatuer background so this makes it hard for Pat Panella to approve a fight. He has the ability to really hurt someone and won't fight anyone who can defend themseleves. Thus, Panella is in a jam.

Panella is a great fight commissioner and takes his job seriously. He simply has fits trying to approve a Jeter fight because Tony won't take a 70-30 fight.

Don't know Joe, but his story on Jeter checks out. Would love to see Jeter-Nicklow, Jeter-Pascall, but Jeter won't take the fights. Jeter beat Mike as an amatuer, Mike isnt a big puncher but he is a pro, he isnt scared and he would eat Jeter alive. Just a fan's opinion.

The fact that he turned down 5k is horrific, that is a huge payday for a guy with Jeter's limited skills. Keep blogging Joe, your honest insight is great to read.

Joe H, why don't you give McCombs a fight?

work with each other all the time in the gym.I am glad that you support Bayan because Andrew and I support him as well.
I know that alot of people would like to see The Doo and the Mongoose go at it but that won't happen anytime soon unless somebody with real real deep pockets wants to foot the bill.
These boys are both talented and need the support of the local boxing community. When I promote I always try to include Bayan on my shows because I think he is deserving and has alot of talent.
    How about supporting both fighters
and lets match them against out of town fighters instead of breaking down what were trying to build in this area.

  123. Yep Farmer and Jargal are basically the same camp. They shouldn't fight unless there is big cake on the line. But I guess it is natural to want to see it and speculate on the fight. IMO Farmer takes him. Too smart of a fighter for Jargal although you can NEVER count Jargal out against anyone because he does something a lot of young fighters don't do - he goes to the body! Would be a great fight and would love to see it!

  124. he never said he would make 5k he said he could make 5k meaning there was some language in the contract, if there was a contract, that existed which made it possible to make 5k.

Atleast thats how I read it.

  125. Pat Panella is awesome! Did you really steal the wallets in high school Joe? Just wondering

    ReplyDelete
  126. Telling me Jeter could have made $5000.00 is not making $5000.00.

Joe, I don't know you personally but your hatred towards Tony seems a little childish. Living through CUJO seems to be what you want to do.
On the flip side your a fine matchmaker. That fight card at the sportsplex was excellent.
Can't we all just get along?

On another subject why all the hatin on McCombs? He has been in the ring unlike a lot of people on this blog. Somebody please get the man a fight.

  127. McCombs is cool dude good skill needs trainer though.

  128. Nope, never stole wallets, never declared bankruptcy, never ripped anybody off. Those are the facts.

    Thanks,

Name one, just one, because something like that has never happened and it never will.

  139. Much too much drama.
This Ridgway VS Sigmon thing is really small potatoes compared to all the other news that is going on in our boxing community.
Man boxing is much more fun when everybody gets along. This area though is loaded with people who just have to start alot of shit because their lives are meaningless
and they for some reason stir the pot with lies and deceit and then find a way to get their name in it so they can be recognized.
You people really need to get a grip and pay your dues in this sport and don't think because you sell tickets or have worked at diffrent gyms that it demands respect for you.Respect comes with time and not over night as some people on this web might believe.
    This particular column was supposed
to be on the Lange fight which deserves all the attention and accolades it can get.The show was one of the best around here in a long time and all fighters on the show were talented. All the fights didn't come out the way we thought they would but every fighter on
the card was worthy of praise for their effort and these are the things we should be focused on and not the negative shit that so many people feel compeled to comment about.

What I want you to do is "Take A deep breath" Hold it ,Hold it,
now exhale slowly. Now doesn't that feel much better.
(YOU HAVE BEEN HEALED MY CHILD.)
Now go forth and spread good tidings.

    Anyone? Anyone?

Wouldn't sell out a phone booth but at least one of them would have to shut up & get off the blog.

    lol!

    Congrats Jimmy!

  143. Is that the same Ridgeway that says he has over 400 amateur fights but doesn't appear anywhere on any websites & no one has ever heard of?

    MMA 0 - 1
& the win against Aughtrey... Only records I can find.

I bet Richard McCombs would beat him & Cujo would KO him.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I've read ridgeway's past post and don't see him say anywhere that he had 400 fights. I think he is a good kid who can fight, and has a future if he doesn't let people play his emotions.

WTF??? I cannot believe what I am reading on this blog sometimes. Is somebody really trying to match Jargal and Farmer? That is incredible! I did not see the fight that Jargal had last but he is one of the most technically sound guys in the area. Hey Gary, wouldn't you agree with that? Not tryinbg to get you in this debate but someone suggested that his boxing skills are not that good.

Furthermore, Jargal's opponents have been big, tough guys. Jargal is stronger than Farmer, he is a tremendous body puncher and has great defense. Why would anyone want Farmer who is a decent fighter to get in the ring at this stage with Jargal.

    Guys c'mon.

Scott, I have been to your shows and have enjoyed them all however lets be honest what world champion has your son sparred with on the regular??

Did anyone see the Jargal, Carrasquillo fight last fall? Carrasquillo is a veteran tough as nails guy and Jargal beat him up completely. There is no way that Farmer could stand in the ring with Jargal for 6 or 8 rounds, no fucking way.

I am so surprised at you Scott.

  147. Scott,

Remember what you told me. Don't let 'em bait you! I know I'm not the best at listening or even taking my own advice but we all know that Andrew is one hell of a fighter and whoever wrote that post is just stirring crap up.
