As we come close to the fifth anniversary of Boxing Along The Beltway, here are some numbers to look at.
BATB has been taking note of the number of boxers that made their pro debut during the BATB era. Since we started keeping track of the rookie classes in 2006, the number of debuting boxers has increased every year. A BATB rookie is someone who started their careers prior to November of a given year.
In 2006, we had 10 boxers make their pro debut. The next year, the number grew slightly to 11. In 2008, the rookie class grew to 16. So far, this year, the number is a relatively astonishing 19.
And who were in these rookie classes? Glad you asked.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 5th! anniversary, Gary. It seems like you have been a presence for much longer. By the same token, I was surprised to read that Bayan Jargal and George "Wartime" Rivera only turned pro in 2007.
ReplyDeleteBoxing years must be like dog years, in that it's a measure of time unique to itself.
joshua snyder who will be back soon 160 or 154
ReplyDeleteDominic “The gay Blade” Wade love it.
ReplyDeleteive been following the beltway boxing circuit pretty closely the past few years and cant help but notice that a fighter by the name of raymondo elliott wasnt on your list. ive been following this guy, even in his amateur days, and he is a more than note worthy fighter. in his pro debut, though he lost by a questionable decision, he showed alot of heart and technique to match. i just think you guys should take all of the talent in baltimore into consideration before releasing any publications. but thats just my two cents...
ReplyDeletePart of the reason a number of boxers were left off the original list was because they only fought once in their rookie year.
ReplyDeleteI kept lists originally for the Rookie of the Year balloting at the end of the year since I could only put up to 10 guys on the ballot.
