There will be some potentially great Beltway Boxing cards coming in the next few weeks. Here's the info we know.
Temple Hills. MD's D'Mitrius Ballard begins his quest for a world title in the AIBA World Junior Boxing Championships on Monday, May 25 in Yerevan, Armenia. Ballard's first-round opponent in the 75 KG (Middleweight) division will be Benjamin Babaei of Iran.
Everything is pretty much set for the Friday, May 29th Baltimore Pro Boxing card at Du Burns Arena in Baltimore. The co-feature bouts remain the same -- Demetrius Davis vs. Corey Cummings for the Maryland State Super Middleweight title and James "Keep 'Em Sleepin'" Stevenson vs. Manuel Guzman for the East Coast Junior Middleweight championship.
Baltimore welterweight Tim "Pitbull" Coleman (15-1-1, four KO's) will take on Jason Thompson of New York (5-3, four KO's) in a six-round contest. Also, Baltimore cruiserweight Steve "Show Stealer" Wheeler (1-0) will take on Dan Shull of Front Royal, VA (1-5) in a four-round contest.
Emmanuel "Transformer" Taylor and Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm are also slated for the card and rookie middleweights Barry Trotter of Waldorf and Justin Blackwell of Baltimore, who were originally scheduled in separate bouts, will now make their pro debuts
against one another.
This card will make a nice segway into our June schedule which will be a jam-packed one. Here's what we know so far:
The action gets underway on Friday, June 5 with a TNT Promotions card at the Shipley Arena in Westminster, MD. So far, all we know about that card is that undefeated Eldersburg, MD light heavyweight Mark "TNT" Tucker is slated to headline.
We have already talked about the Saturday, June 6 card at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in DC. That's the Madness Connection card slated to feature former two-time WBC Middleweight champion Keith Holmes in the main event against former WBA Junior Middleweight champ Carl Daniels.
We also know a little about the Major League Boxing promotions card at the Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, VA on Friday, June 12. We know that Fluvanna, VA middleweight George "Wartime" Rivera (10-4, three KO's) will take on Contender: Season One star Jonathan "Reid Dawg" Reid in a six-round contest. However, that is not the main event. The featured bout has Caroline County's own Adam "The Real Deal" Seal (6-1, five KO's) taking on veteran "Dynamite" Dan Sheehan (11-36, five KO's) in a scheduled six-rounder.
A number of Beltway prospects are slated to be on the undercard including heavyweight "The Big Ticket" Dwayne McRae, Tyrell "Da Show Shock'A" Samuel and possibly Thomas "KO" Snow, should he decide not to take his scheduled bout on June 5 in Minnesota.
Ballroom Boxing will return on Thursday, June 18 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD. Slated to be on this Ballroom Boxing/TKO Promotions card will be locals Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow, Julius Kennedy and, possibly James Stevenson. As of right now, Nicklow is not slated to face Kennedy, but that could easily change.
I haven't heard a lot of words on this card, but there is a card slated for Friday, June 19 at the Wicomico Youth And Civic Center in Salisbury, MD. The card is slated to feature undefeated Fernando Guerrero.
Then on Saturday, June 20, there is a pretty unique amateur card coming to Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD This will be an all-female amateur card put together by WIST (Women in Sports Together), the group led by "Fightlady" Wanda Bruce. We'll give you more details as the date draws nearer.
Also, we have a number of boxers going to the 2009 USA Boxing National Championships, June 8-13 at the Denver Coliseum in Denver, CO. These boxers are slated to represent the Beltway area:
119 - Marcus Gaddis, Landover, MD
125 - Kevin Rivers, Landover, MD
132 - Elvis Medrano, Washington, DC
141 - Gary Allen Russell, Capitol Heights, MD
165 - Travis Peterkin, Edgewood, MD
178 - Thomas Williams, Fort Washington, MD
201 - Charles Johnson, Upper Marlboro, MD
thomas williams will be turning pro in august. never was too smart.
ReplyDeletewhat fool has conned him? a used car saleman or a local snake. perhaps he was promised a low milaged, garaged kept, one owner, ford pinto...snakes love dummies...
save your money for the salisbury, fake wwf show.please....
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the Major League Boxing card on June 12th, but how did George Rivera vs. Jonathan Reid become an undercard to Adam Seal vs. Dan Sheehan?
ReplyDeleteI know that Seal is local, but he has neither the national exposure of Reid, nor the contender (not to be confused with Contender) buzz of Rivera.
As far as Sheehan is concerned, the only time I've seen him was when he took a beating from J.C. Robles at one of the early Patriot Center shows. He looked like he had just rolled off the all-you-can buffet at Country Cookin', and couldn't wait for the fight to end so he could get back in line. I know that Sheehan has a more-than-respectable opponent list, but you wouldn't have known that by his Patriot Center performance.
We'll see if "scheduling issues" cause the main event to occur right before the Rivera/Reid bout.
In this case, Seal is the main event because the card is in his home area. That is the only reason.
ReplyDeletei want see james keeping sleeping stevenson keep doing what your doing i see big things for u
ReplyDeleteis the kid that just beat john macky
ReplyDeletefighting on may,29th
do anyone know.
Cecil McCalla is not scheduled for the May 29th show.
ReplyDeleteHow can Rivera people let there so-called star be on the undercard of a preliminary fighter like Seal? The answer he can't sell tickets if the promoter wants to make any money he has to that....
ReplyDeleteDoes Thomas Snow have the option to decide to fight in MN on the June 5th MN card or on the June 12th card in Maryland? I know getting out of a contract is as easy as knowing a doctor that will say you can't fight but still I wouldn't think he could get out any other way. Personally, I hope he does come to MN to fight! The kid he is fighting has some amazing skills and from what I have read, Snow is pretty flashy and has good power as well. I really want to see his fight with Boxley.
ReplyDeleteBest case, he could fight on both cards, but I am sure he will be on suspension after he gets ko'ed on the 5th (ha I am kidding.. sort of, I am from MN ;)
Where can I buy a ticket to the June 6 show?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the East Central Regional Champions that will be moving on to the National Junior Olympic Tournament in Denver, Colorado June 8th - 11th:
