Guerrero Advances; Peterkin and Jones Fall at Golden Gloves!

Three DC Regional champions competed on Day 1 of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, UT yesterday.

Alexis Guerrero of Salisbury advanced to the second round of the 201-pound division defeating Joseph White IV of Florida.

Two of the DC Region boxers faced tough draws in the first round and were eliminated from competition. Baltimore's Travis Peterkin lost to Luis Arias of Wisconsin in the 165-pound bracket. Arias won the US Future Stars championship in 2008, 2009 US Under-19 champ and placed third in the AIBA Youth World Championships last year.

Also, Willie Jones of North Carolina was eliminated by Johnny Garcia of Michigan in the 141-pound bracket. Garcia advanced to the second round last year and lost to the eventual champion, Dan O'Connor.

  3. word from utah is peterkin whipped arias ass ALL 3 ROUNDS last night and scored 2 knockdowns and only 1 was counted and that was a body shot. arias thought peterkin was easy, and peterkin beat him real good. they took points away from peterkin for arias hplding, trying 2 survive the 3rd round. this is a very bad loss, a masterful performance taken away as usa boxing protected arias, who is #1 in the nation, from more ass-whooping, because thats what he got. great job, peterkin. you did well.

  4. peterkin whooped his ass last nite. arias was holding and peterkin got called for it. arias got knocked down twice and still won. peterkin showed he is a prime time kid who, with a few calls going his way will be a force, which he already is. you ever seen arias cry before? he cried after that body shot peterkin gave him. peterkin is for real. see u at the usa nationals peterkin. you exposed the bully arias and whipped his ass. made the #1 in the nation chump cry and usa boxing rescued him. cant wait to show the boxing world this fight on youtube. peterkin is a winner. his father was pissed, but with a winner like peterkin, he wont be pissed for long. this kid is truly special. he whipped luis arias ass and watch arias past bouts on youtube. you will be shocked.

  6. phones are ringing and word is luis arias admitted 2 many people with dc people present that peterkin won the fight. also after saying he was hit below the belt which led to the 2nd point deduction, 152lb national champ javonte starks finally got arias to admit in front of a crowd of people the punch was legit and he went down hoping the ref deduct points from peterkin. for a #1 ranked boxer this is truly a sucker move and peterkin has my respect forever. a nc coach was present and furthermore someone needs to call colorado and tell them their champ is a CHUMP!!!! arias walks around tournaments like a bully and peterkin whipped his ass. i no longer respect arias and peterkin needs to get the breaks he deserves. no #1 ranked boxer should punk up and arias did exactly that. check utah, its the TRUTH!!!!
