Boxing Returns to DC Saturday, June 6!

Washington, DC will host its first boxing card of 2009 on Saturday, June 6 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and three legendary names will be involved in the card.

One legendary name is the name of the promotional company handling the card. This card will mark the return of Madness Connection to the boxing scene. In the 1990's, Madness, led by Tyrone Johnson, was the preeminent promotions group in the Nation's Capitol, putting on cards that featured a who's who of Beltway talent.

The second name is the boxer in the main event -- former two-time WBC Middleweight champion Keith Holmes, who returns to ring after an almost two-year absence to face former WBA Junior Middleweight champ Carl "The Squirrel" Daniels. Holmes (40-5, 25 KO's) has not fought since losing an eight-round unanimous decision to Tito Mendoza on August 16, 2007 for the WBA Fedalatin Light Heavyweight title in Panama. Daniels (50-17-1, 32 KO's), meanwhile, just fought on May 15, losing a six-round unanimous decision to undefeated Chuck Mussachio in Atlantic City, NJ.

The third legendary name seeks to carry on a family tradition. He is known as "The Next Generation," Louis "Li'l Heidi" Curtis who is the namesake of 1976 Olympian Louis "Heidi" Curtis. The younger Curtis started his pro career in March 1998, winning by second-round TKO over Gregory Bryant in DC, but he hasn't fought since.

Also slated to be on the card will be 2000 Olympic Bronze medalist Clarence "Untouchable" Vinson (16-2, seven KO's) who will take on super featherweight Terrence "T-Brick" Roy of Covington, TN (9-29, one KO). Three local boxers are also slated to make their pro debuts on this card -- John "Nature Boy" Chavis, Tim "Brass Knuckles" Bolding and Jamal "Hit Man" Chalo. Three amateur bouts are also slated for the event.
