Boxing Roars Into Virginia in March!

March will bring boxing in like a lion to the Commonwealth of Virginia with two shows on back-to-back Saturdays.

The first show, coming this Saturday, March 7, is a little off the Beltway path but features some Beltway Boxers. Major League Boxing promotions is having a show at the Fluvanna County High School Gym in Fluvanna, VA (near Charlottesville). Headlining the show will be a graduate of the high school, middleweight George "Wartime" Rivera . Rivera (9-4, three KO's) will take on Daniel "Magic" Gonzalez of Billings, MT (9-21-2, three KO's) in a six-round encounter. Rivera will be looking to bounce back from a tough six-round split decision loss to Rodney Green in Staunton, VA on January 31. A win for Rivera will set up a rematch with Green next month in Lynchburg, VA.

Waynesboro, VA cruiserweight "El Guerro" Juan Carlos Robles (11-2, five KO's) will also be on the card taking on veteran Gary Lavender of Winston-Salem, NC (7-12, six KO's) in another six-round bout. Robles is coming off a strong six-round unanimous decision victory over Ed Gutierrez on the Staunton card on January 31. Lavender has faced a number of Beltway Boxers in the past including Corey Cummings, Carlos Jones, Mike Paschall and Mark Tucker.
All four of them stopped Lavender, however Jones's win was later declared a no contest because Jones tested positive for a controlled substance.

Also, Bedford, VA light heavyweight Scott "Cujo" Sigmon (4-1, one KO) will be on the bill, taking on undefeated Frankie "Freight Train" Filippone of Virginia Beach, VA (2-0, one KO) in a four-round encounter.

Then on Saturday, March 14, Left Hook Boxing will put on a card at the Winchester Sportsplex in Winchester, VA. Details are still a little sketchy, but we do know that undefeated Arlington, VA lightweight "The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal is slated to headline the card. Front Royal, VA's Andrew "The Doo Man" Farmer was scheduled to be on the show, but Farmer hurt himself on his other job.

  1. Gary I apologize I must have not been clear.Andrew was scheduled to headline the card in another eight round bout but it was he who got injured at his job and not his opponet. He accidently put a three inch long gash in his hand with a razor knife. So I decided to put Byan on the card and in the main event slot.
I will call you with an update on the card by the weekend.

  8. it really stinks that andrew isn't on the card. he is actually one of the most talented fighters in the area if not the most. scott farmer has not only done a great job training him, but also in a raising a respectable and humble young man. what does the undercard look like? i hope to see some up and coming fighters from the area.
