A. Peterson Injures Knee; is Off Saturday Pay-Per-View!

DC lightweight Anthony Peterson, who was slated to take on Edner Cherry in the co-feature pay-per-view bout this Saturday in Madison Square Garden in New York, hurt his knee in training and will not be able to participate.

Peterson and his trainer, Barry Hunter, told Fightnews.com that Peterson heard a clicking noise in his left knee, ran for eight miles and aggravated the kneecap. Peterson underwent an MRI this past Saturday.

“Anthony is very, very upset as he really wanted to fight at Madison Square Garden,” said Hunter. “He is physically unable to compete at this time.”

  4. I'm not going to say nothing but sugarpoo had a broke hand and did 12rounds with ward he got his beet but he still got in there

  5. "I'm not going to say nothing but"

Well damn you just did say it didn't you?

Aside from the Gatti, what fool is going to fight 12 rounds with a broken hand that thinks he has any future in the sport?

  6. The sad part is that this would have been AP's first real fight. It was the only reason I would have purchased this PPV. The Peterson brothers need to be careful not to let the open window shut on them. They have passed up to many chance fights in order to stay undefeated IMO and better take a tough fight before the sport forgets about them.

  7. So you are accusing A. Peterson of wimping out?

Why would he sign on if he wasn't going to make the fight? You are calling him a liar. Not cool. He is one of our best and brightest.

PPV or DC armory he is one of our best jewels and elevates our boxing reputation.

You really can't touch what he's got anonymous.

  8. I dont know I ventured off to other avenues like starting my own business & promoting my own boxing show. I'm about to be 28 March 21st Boxing for me is far from my mind at times as far as fighting is concern. Oh yea my wife throwing me a surprise bday if anyone from the beltway wanna come email me so that I can get your info: RichardMcCmbs@yahoo.com

  9. I don't know if he wimped out or not. But I do know that the two brothers have turned down high profile fights in the past behind the scenes. If Anthony is really hurt I feel for him. I feel for him because his injury coupled with turning down other fights is really making it tough for him to get into AAA and out of AA. Same for Lamont. A Cherry victory would have set up AP's 2009. Now it will mirror his 2008 IMO.

  10. Per the article...Anthony heard a click and then went running for 8 miles.

If you heard a click in your knee (aka - a clue that something might be wrong) - why would you then run eight miles on it?

    8mile.

  11. How czn u compare sugar poo to anybody ...that is so ridiculous...talk about something you know about stop speculating. If Ant could fight he would...Stop hating u haters....Speedy recovery Anthony

  12. I want nothing but the best for AP. I am not "hatin" on anybody. I just know that HBO, Showtime and PPV opportunities don't grow on trees.

  14. Poo you have no business in this thread which is about ANTHONY PETERSON. Stop dovetailing on his and others' famename Poo.

Stand on your own 2 (feet, fists, balls or whatever TF you have) and you won't need to troll for attention outside the ring.

  15. I believe in being careful but this is ridiculious. You just backed out of a fight at the MSG on the undercard of Cotto. I know for a fact that your knee is not bothering you. I know your oppenant hits extremely hard but you are on pay-per-view. You do not get any easy fights on PPV.
Say whay you want, but Sugar Poo would have fought anyone regardless of the situation. You may never get another chance like this one. That is the third time you backed out of a fight. Ant you need to take some chances in order to make it to the big time. Furthermore, you can fight and just may have pulled out an upset.
You are not getting any younger. Forget the protecting of your record-go for the money. I hope you did not mess up too bad. I hope they give you another chance. Still cannot believe it~~~the Miguel Coto ubdercard-packed house at the MSG on PPV. DAMN!!! Only time will tell...

  17. i see these comments about sugar pooh and must say he exposed ward. if he is fighting with a broken hand and was able to go 12 rounds with a gold medalist that says alot about Pooh and ward. Ward to me is overrated and has been coddled like cotto and many other olympians. Pooh lacks the experience but with more fights he will get it. he has the heart and chin; a combination you don't see much of these days.
as for peterson, he's young and will be back. we are always taught to go through with pain and it becomes second nature to ignore it. he learned a valuable lesson; listen to the body it always tell the truth...

  21. Ladies Love Some Sugar Poo!!!
He fights regardless of a scratch on the knee. The man went 12 rounds with Ward with a broken right hand. No protected record here. Sugar Poo is the real deal.
Sugar Poo is handsome, brave, and a real fighter. A young ladies dream man.

  23. i look at all these anonymous responders and can't help but wonder, who are these "cyber gangsters"??? lol !!! I have to defend fighters because i was once an amatuer fighter for 15 years. professional fighters fight for money whether they are hurt or not they don't get paid for sick leave. i have fought in germany with tears in shoulders and broken bones because i was paid well as an amateur. sugar poo did what he had to do. as for petersen, why would his team be scared of edner cherry???? the guy can't punch, he's not a threat. he will get another chance. as for any "cyber gangsters" that have problems with my comments, especially the one calling me a fool. i am a 42 year old crusierweight with no pro fights and would fight any of you for money; winner take all !!!

  24. That is the funniest post on here! You are calling us "Cyber Gangstas", yet you are the typical internet tough guy. Man do you know how childish and weak it looks to call out people on the internet as if you would ever see them. You are a clown Cruiserweight and you never got paid to fight as an amateur. Keep being an internet tough guy. Is this you? http://api.ning.com/files/CN3s74alOU6l3KVZdTsjMbtxoSbK8kTDoHnOwsgFY9AwjEk-kwkjViWrFLdNnD303ImywmEx9auGZWjRlfyM**vknhSgCDPI/InternetToughGuy.jpg

  27. How easy it is to judge another person when you are not walking in their shoes. No one knows exactly how Ant's knee feels except for him. Period, point blank. And if you truly knew him (instead of speculating about the person he is), you would know that he is a stand up person who would not lie or "wimp" out of a fight. For all the commenters who had something negative to say, please don't concern yourself with his career or his future. The world did not bless him with his talent, work ethic or determination, and the world surely cannot take it away from him. What God has in store for him is just for him. Just like what God has in store for each of us is just for us. Miracles and Blessings!

  29. OH BROTHER.

Hater's on this blog just make themselves look stupid, weak and inadequate.

Injuries happen. You know those of weaker character/strength and the just pitifully not in the same league will try and jump on what they envy.

Same with religious zealots. Keep it in your church guys.

There has to be some religious blogs you can tap all that pious energy into.

Jewelry...you and McCombs sound like a match made in heaven!

  30. Some of the world did an enormous amount lot to bless the Petersons' lives. Barry Hunter put an enormous amount of love and energy into them along with many others that cared and believed along the way. Your inappropriate religious rantings cheapen the their love, salvation and contribution in the brother's lives.

  31. Anthony will bounce back just watch and see. Gary I know some of these comment gotta make u laugh. I cant help but ask why is it that DC hate on there own fighters?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Richard, people just want to know your thoughts and expertise on boxing. If you can't piece together anything coherent without religious psycho-babble just about every time you post then it just gets tiresome, and not even worth laughing at.

Doesn't matter if we believe or love God...or not...just we, well I am am here for boxing. Just like you don't talk about your sex life here (and we really don't want to hear about that either), but just please stay in the ropes of boxing.
