Beltway Boxing Random Notes!

February is rapidly becoming a very busy month for the Beltway Boxing scene, so here are some of the events coming up for Beltway Boxers in chronological order.

Saturday, February 14 -- Reno Events Center -- Reno, NV -- undefeated Arlington, VA's "The Mongolian Mongoose" Bayan Jargal (10-0-1, seven KO's) will take on Albert Rodriguez of McKinney, TX (8-1-1, four KO's) in a six-round lightweight bout. This is the weight where Jargal's handlers would like him to be. This will be on the Joey Gilbert-Jesse Brinkley card.

Saturday, February 14 -- BankAtlantic Center -- Sunrise, FL -- Capitol Heights, MD's Gary Russell, Jr. (1-0, one KO) takes on John Wampash of Quito, Ecuador (1-0-1, one KO) in a four-rounder on the Nate Campbell-Ali Funeka card.

Friday, February 20 -- University Center Arena -- Fort Lauderdale, FL -- Undefeated Lusby, MD middleweight Keith Gross (3-0, one KO) will take on Erislandy Lara (3-0, two KO's) fighting out of Germany by way of Cuba in a four-round bout that is slated to be on ESPN2. Gross replaces Cecil McCalla, who was originally scheduled to be on the card.

Saturday, February 21 -- Madison Square Garden -- New York, NY -- Undefeated Washington, DC lightweight Anthony Peterson (28-0, 19 KO's) takes on Edner Cherry (24-6-2, 12 KO's) of Wauchula, FL in a 10-pound lightweight bout on pay-per-view.

Friday, February 27 -- Prudential Center -- Newark, NJ -- Undefeated Laurel, MD lightweight Ikem "The Warrior" Orji (4-0, one KO) will battle undefeated Anthony Flores of Philadelphia, PA (6-0, four KO's) in Orji's first scheduled six-round contest. This will be on the Tomasz Adamek-Jonathan Banks IBF Cruiserweight title card.

Closer to home, TNT Promotions and the Maryland Boxing Club have added on to their card on Friday, February 20 at the Shipley Arena at the Carroll County AG Center in Westminster, MD.

The main event on the card is still the first eight-round contest for undefeated Eldersburg, MD light heavyweight Mark "TNT" Tucker (6-0, five KO's) as he takes on New Castle, DE veteran Richard Stewart (14-7-2, eight KO's).

The co-feature will be Dean "Pitbull" White of Smithsburg, MD 14-9-1, seven KO's) as he takes on Mario Garcia of Charlotte, NC (7-8-1, four KO's) in a six-rounder.

DC middleweight Antonio Walls (2-1, one KO) will battle the debuting Ron Reaves of Orlando, FL in a four-round contest.

Undefeated Laurel, MD heavyweight "The Big Ticket" Dwayne McRae (3-0, three KO's) takes on Andrew Jackson of Crossett, AK (3-3, two KO's).

Also, undefeated Brandywine, MD heavyweight Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (9-0-1, six KO's) and Cumberland, MD junior middleweight Dontre King (1-2-1) are slated to participate on the card. King is slated to battle Jamar Freeman of North Carolina (1-0).

  3. Is Mccalla still fighting on the Feb 20 ESPN card or has he been replaced by Keith Gross

  4. Everything I have read or heard (including sites other than Boxrec) have said that it will be McCalla. I will double check though.
