Mackey Wins NABC US Title With Second-Round Knockout!

Montgomery, AL middleweight John "No Mercy" Mackey scored a solid second-round knockout over Jesse Williams of Youngstown, OH to win the North American Boxing Council (NABC) United States Middleweight title in front of a strong contingent of family members at the ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, VA.

Mackey hit Williams with a vicious left hand off the ropes that stunned Williams and dropped him. Williams got up, but referee Billy Johnson saw that he was in no condition to continue. The bout was stopped at 1:51 of the second round that set off a wild family celebration that included impromptu line dancing.

With the win, Mackey raises his record to 11-1, five KO's. Williams falls to 14-8-1, two KO's.

The co-feature was a minor upset as Baltimore featherweight Darrell Martin broke a five-bout losing streak by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Andre "Clockwork" Nichols of Manassas, VA. Judges Michelle Hall and Brian Costello scored the bout 58-56 while Bill Osterman saw the bout 59-55. Martin is now 3-6 while Nichols is 3-4, two KO's.

Other results on the card:

Laurel, MD welterweight Norman "The Shadow" Allen won a four-round unanimous decision over Tolan "The Technician" Tascoe of Newark, NJ. Allen scored a shutout on all three judges cards and raised his record to 5-1, three KO's while Tascoe falls to 1-2.

Glen Burnie, MD welterweight Lenwood "Mr. Composure" Dozier won a tough four-round unanimous decision over a very game Benjamin Borteye, a native of Ghana who now fights out of Silver Spring, MD. Dozier did drop Borteye in the final minute of the final round, but not before Borteye took some brutal shots and showed incredible toughness in the first three rounds. Dozier is now 3-0-1, two KO's.

Arlington, VA heavyweight Daivii Otgonbayer scored a second-round TKO over Robert Monroe of Front Royal, VA. Otgonbayer knocked Monroe down twice, the second knockdown sending Monroe to one knee and forced him to stop fighting. The bout ended at 1:07 of the third round. Otgonbayer, a native of Mongolia, is now 1-1-1, one KO while Royal is 0-4.

Landover, MD heavyweight Joe Gardner made his pro debut a successful one and caused an hour-long delay of the card in the process. Gardner scored a first-round TKO over Warren, OH's Donavan Toles. Gardner used an almost 60-pound weight advantage early as he leveled Toles with a brutal three-piece combination that ended with a crushing left that stretched Toles at forty seconds of the round. Toles had to be taken to a nearby hospital for observation. Toles has a record of 0-4. The card was delayed to allow the EMT's to return to the card.

The opening bout took just 48 seconds as John "Shotgun" Hayes of Atlantic City, NJ stopped Travis "Thunder" Toler of Sharpsburg, NC.

This was a co-promotion of Sugar Han Promotions and After Shock Events.

Interesting note about this card: A number of former Beltway-area pros worked the card as trainers during the evening. Former IBF Junior Middleweight champion Vincent "The Ambassador" Pettway worked the corner of Darrell Martin. Former USBA Light Heavyweight champ Tim "Da Bamma" Hillie was in the corner of Norman Allen. Former middleweight contender Victor Davis guided Joe Gardner while Willie "The Heat" Taylor was in the corner of Daivii Otgonbayer. All four trainers led their charges to victory.

Here is the BATB Post-Fight Wrap-Up Show which includes an interview with the new NABC US Middleweight champion.

  4. Rob Monroe needs to stop boxing before he gets hurt.He has no business being in this sport. He is not even an opponant.

  5. Jesse Williams is 4-8, not 14-8. This sort of "title" fight is embarassing. There is no legitimate sanctioning body in the world that would approve Jesse Williams, loser of four of his last five (the other was a no contest) for any title. This fight was a total joke and I cannot figure out why this web site treats a good fight between credible fighters the same way it treats a bogus fight like this. And furthermore, this piece gets picked up by Fightnews and basically takes any credibility away of BATB, because people who are knowledgeable in the business know that this fight is totally bogus. So when BATB reports on a real fight, nobody pays attention. Beltway boxers are all then dumped into the tank of BATB mediocrity.

  6. Thanks to all the boxers who fought on our show last night.

Lenwood Dozier vs Benjamin Borteye was the fight of night. Back and forth action but at the end Lenwood was just too much of skill for Borteye.

What a knock out by Joe Gardner! Joe put that boy in the hospital. And opponent didnt checkout the hospital until the morning.

There wasnt many people as we expected and me and Asim both lost about $5000 each. But I was happy with how John Mackey performed.
    Masterful performance by John Mackey.

I like to Thank Gary Digital for covering our show.

Also excellent match making job done by Asim. Thank you.

  9. I have a job that pays me pretty good money and I save that money to do the boxing show for my fighters. I love boxing and I really feels important to giving them the right fights. As you probably know that it is very hard to do that on someone elses show.

I am not looking to make big money
I will be happy if I break even on the show. I really want help Makey and give him the best oppurtunity in boxing. That is all.

  11. 4and 8 and thats the kind of title fight ,well I better stop before I piss somebody off.Good Idea Han ,
except somebody checked his real record and not the fabricated one you used to promote the fight.

  13. Hey I didnt fabricate his record to promote the show, not at all. The opponents name was mentioned only 1day before the fight and Digital already mentioned at FIGHTNEWS.COM that his record was 4-7. I only did it at the bout sheet on the day of the fight so people who was alreay at the show would be more excited with fight. Plus, Jesse is not a bad fighter better than his acctual record. I really thought Jesse would be little competetive but I was totally wrong. Han Kim

  14. Han- Please Jesse is 4-8 and is terrible. No state with a legitimate commission would approve that fight for a six rounder, let alone a "title" fight. If the crowd is small it is because anyone in these times who is looking at their spending money and considring going to a fight looked at that "title" fight and realized that it was bullshit. Really if you want to get Mackey a win, spend half the money you supposedly lost and pay for him to be on a card in Alabama. He gains nothing by that title. There is no prestige to that, other legitimate sanctioning bodies will ignore him when he has that on his record. The best thing that he can do with that belt is throw it away and try and use his record to get ranked in the USBA or the NABF or the NABO whereby he might get called for a legitimate title fight against, god forbid, a real fighter. If you get that real fighter and put on that sort of fight at the ABC, the great Beltway boxing fans will come. Unlike some people they know the difference between a pit bull and a soccer mom, sorry, I mean 4-8 fighter from Ohio.

  15. Thank for you input FORTY-ONE. But since that fight with Jesse, John had moved up 10 spot on the BOXREC US middleweight rating. And he is morerespected in the boxing community. His fight with Anthony Greenidge in 12-13-08, NABA is offering us their title. This is how small minor belts helps the fighters to move up in the ratings at BIG 4(wba,wba,ibf wbo). Plus he is getting paid twice as more now with the title. Thanks FORTY-ONE but I think your wrong. Han Kim

  16. To forty-one: you make valid points about the quality of the fighter, but 1) the fighter got in the ring and tried; 2) BATB is one helluva resource and you're badmouthing it is just like smog, pollution; 3) Han Kim does a great job; 4) What the heck do you do?

  17. Hey, Han!
I owe you one, buddy. Sorry I didn't make it down. Tim Hillie alone is worth the price of admission! We need to get you some proper marketing/promotion so you can make some money at this thing. Hang in there, and don't let anyone get you down. You're bringing honor to Virginia boxing, and I hope you find your way to the next level. -- John S.
p.s. -- I would give one piece of unsolicited advice, however: Never ever fabricate a fighter's record on the bout sheet. People won't get excited by that; they'll get excited by a good fight. Truth in advertising, in the long run, is the only way to go. Upwards and onwards!

  18. Boxrecs numerical rankings have no effect whatsoever in the real worl. It may make the fighter happy, but tv networks, sanctioning bodies, sites and thre boxing press pay not attention to it. So to ttheorize that it has some effect on what your fighter gets paid is absurd. The reason to spend money on a minor minor belt like that is to maybe help with promoting the event. But no title fight with aguy who is 4-8 can be promoted and lying about his record is just totally bogus. When so many people walk around with blackberries or pdas and have instant access to fighters records on their cell phones, you end up having folks in the audience start speaking of how the record is a lie etc. etc.
As John S. sez, it is far better to tel the truth!

  19. John Mackey vs.Rob Monroe for another belt.More people may come to the show if he is fighting for another belt.Han your so full of shit.Get real, and quit lying.Maybe thats why you didnt have a good turn out. Before john got the belt he should fight who he lost to.

  20. OK OK guys maybe I shouldnt have put that record on the bout sheets.
But I tell you guys that alot of people, matchmakers and promoters do look at that ratings. And we are going to fight Josh Snyder on November 6th at Hilton hotel in DC.
Trust me, John Mackey had been asking me to make that fight but none of the promoter would spend the money that fight was worth. But finally that fight was offered to us and we took it. Josh Snyder is very good fighter and so is John Mackey and they should be compensated correctly if they fight eachother. Both those guys are worriors and this is gonna be an another barn burning fight. I know alot of people been asking me about this fight and it is happening here at home guys. So please come out and cheer for these two worriors. Han Kim

  22. Hey, Han
It's going to be hell hard to come out and support John Mackey at the Hilton. That is the Fight Night for Children event and costs something like $1,000 a head to get in! -- John S.

  23. True that John S...I am surprised Fight Night isn't televised, it would surely raise much more money. Sounds like this was in the works all along. Feels like fans don't really matter except to get Han and John where they want to go. I like both fighters. Hope the best man wins.

  24. From what I've heard most people at the event don't even watch the fights.
