The Friday, November 14 Better Promotions card at the Maryland Sportsplex in Millersville, MD is starting to take shape and there are some interesting situations involved in this card.
The main event will be an eight-round junior welterweight contest between DC's Reggie "The Mechanic" Holly and Ryan Belasco of Wilmington, DE that will be for the Delmarva Jr. Welterweight title.
Holly (7-4, two KO's) will be trying to break a two-bout losing streak including a four-round unanimous decision loss to Stephane Malenou on June 4 in Brooklyn, NY. Belasco (8-2-3, two KO's) has won three straight including a six-round unanimous decision over Justin Danforth on August 1 in Oaks, PA.
There will be two Beltway pro debuts on this card. One of the debuts will be the long awaited debut of DC featherweight Larry Recio, who has more than 120 amateur victories. No word yet on who Recio's opponent will be. Also, Severn, MD junior middleweight Vincent Batteast will make his pro debut against Cumberland, MD's Dontre King (1-2).
Two members of the Better Promotions staff will also be involved in bouts on the card. Columbia, MD junior middleweight Tony "Mo Better" Jeter will be involved in a four-round contest against Darrett Crockett of Rock Hill, SC. Jeter (6-2, five KO's) is coming off a four-round unanimous decision over Chris Cook on the last Better Promotions show on September 19. Crockett (6-20, four KO's) has won two straight including a four-round stoppage of the same Chris Cook on April 10 in Gaffney, SC.
Also, one of Jeter's partners -- James Wilkins -- will be involved in an amateur bout versus three-time Ringside Masters champ Calvin Ford.
By the way, Jeter is pulling off a rather unique trifecta, serving as boxer, promoter AND matchmaker for this card.
There will also be amateur bouts on the card, including promising heavyweight Ron Gamble.
Yeah you can tell Jeter is doing his matchmaking with him fighting a 6-20 guy. Didnt he say on your interview that he wants to start stepping up fighting better competition?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Pat Panella even letting this fight go?
How the hell do you know that is Scott Farmer? Who the heck are you anon? I am sure this stuff doesn't even ruffle his radar...I am sure he has way better things to do than agitate in this, of all threads.
ReplyDeletebtw...He does a great job of promoting.
"Great job of promoting"??? Is that why all his fighters are walking away from him?
ReplyDeleteWell don't know about that. All the fights I attended were good. I know one fighter he has that's not going anywhere. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's not entirely true. I do know of 3 fighters that are/were at odds.
ReplyDeleteDon't know all of the why. Never really thought about it, but guess I really should.
From my perspective of the fights I attended (BATB peeps get this now and don''t tell me to look at it from another perspective), Scott Farmer's shows have been very successful, well attended fights.
Don't even know why this is coming up on a MD thread. Who has it in for Scott Farmer in Maryland? LOL!
First of all You should know the what you are talking about before you speak on it! Some fighters get a big head from beating up on bums and think they are ready to take on top quality opposition when in fact they aren't! I guess that's why THAT fighter not ALL of his fighters is trying to go his own way. unfortunately i believe that that one fighter is making a terrible mistake. so to say he can't promote is truly unfair! He does the same thing with his fighters as everyone else and in some cases is better to them than most. So next time you speak out against someone know what the hell you are talking about! And if you are saying that he couldn't fight then who the hell are you??? how well can/could you fight and how well can you promte?
ReplyDelete-The one fighter who will NEVER leave Scott Farmer!!!!!
This wasn't Scott Farmer.
ReplyDeleteBut it's OK if you think it was.
But at least learn how to spell
or word your sentences. Your the one thats an illiterate piece of garbage. Just for the record it doesn't matter who Tony Jeter fights ,he can fight who the hell he wants to. I know Tony Jeter well and he could kick the shit out of alot of good fighters.
I have nothing negative to say about Tony concerning anything and I hope his promoting goes well for him and his crew.So try to find somebody else you Dummy.
Scott Farmer
PS.No fighter has ever left me unless I shoved him out the door.
There is only one fighter I regret not being able keep in the gym in my years of boxing and that fighters name is Stennis Floyd.
He had more about him than any other fighter in the metro area.
He only left because he wanted to start a family, and that he did.
I like what Jeter is doing, he loves the sport and is contributing in many ways. Jeter, not a good pro by any means, is smart enough to recognize that at best he is a club fighter. He likes to box but at 31 isn't going to see the bigtime. Who are we to criticize him for remaining in the game without exposing himself to too much harm? I wish Tony the best and have a strong suspician that he will end up being agood club promoter.

ReplyDeleteTony can fight, thats a fact.
ReplyDeleteTony can't fight. Period. He will have about as much success as a promoter as he had as a fighter. He will show a little promise, face some difficult obstacles, not handle them well, turn bitter (and thankfully) and go into another line of work.
ReplyDeleteReggie vs ryan should be a good fight.
ReplyDeleteare you kidding me the reggie ryan fight a good one ryan is going to kill reggie he may need to stop boxing all together, that fight probably was set up just for ryan
ReplyDeletewhy are people always knocking Tony Jeter "Mo Better" ,I gave him that name when I use to manage him fresh from the amatuer ranks.Tony is trying to do something unique in being a promoter, matchmaker and fighter, it is so difficult to do one, let alone three things in this game.We need people who are trying to keep this sport alive so don't hate support this young go getter named MO BETTER
ReplyDeleteGary,
ReplyDeleteI see Larry Recio is making a long awaited debut. Isn't he trained by Barry Hunter & Co now? Any word when Dominic Wade will be turning pro? I hear they are both fighting out of the same gym now. Is this true. Dang, back in the day both guys were from Round 1. What else has changed. I've been away for a few years and just getting back in the groove.
Good luck to everyone on the card.
WHY DONT YOU STEP UP AND FIGHT MIKE RICASA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletePAT PANELLA IS PUNCH DRUNK........SHOOOOOO....RONNELL..WASH D.C.
