Arvin USBO Title Shot Cancelled!

Tough break for Baltimore's Ishmail "The Arsenal" Arvin. His USBO Junior Middleweight title shot against Willie "Slik" Lee scheduled for Saturday, April 12 in Biloxi, MS has been cancelled.

The Mississippi Athletic Commission shut down the entire card because promoters were unable to secure the fighters's purses 10 days before the event as agreed upon by the promoter's contract.

  1. What to hell is a USBO title and how do I get one.
It seems everybody has a governing organization.

  2. To play the analogy game:

    USBO is to IBO as:

    USBA is to IBF

    NABO is to WBO

    NABA is to WBA

NABF used to be to WBC

The USBO (United States Boxing Organization) is the United States regional arm of the International Boxing Organization. It's not nearly as big or as well known as the other regional governing bodies.

  3. Digital, if the NABF used to be the regional body of the WBC, what's the current one?

  4. ACW,

Don't even worry about these belts, they are all garbage anyway other than the World Titles. And even if they are one of the Big 4 (WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO) titles, if they don't get you a big money shot on HBO, Showtime, or Pay Per View - they ain't worth squat!

  5. That's true to a point, however it's the only way we truly have to rank boxers, crazy as it may be.

To answer your question directly, the WBC elevated its "Continental Americas" title to the same status as the NABF. The NABF broke off from the WBC last year.

  6. Unless you are someone like Y. Gamboa, who at 9-0 can be fighting on HBO Boxing After Dark (and he actually has one of the NA belts), these belts are important. They serve the very important purpose of getting you ranked in the the national rankings- if you win the USBA for instance, you will be ranked in the top twelve usually in the IBF. That allows the fighter, if he keeps winning and defending his belt to rise in the rankings and in the weight classes where there is some fluidity, an almost guaranteed world title shot.
Showtime and HBO call their top boxing shows "Championship Boxing". In order to qualify to fight for a title, you need to be ranked and the best way to get ranked is to win one of those titles.
The Arvin fight for the USBO title is still on the table and I will let you know in the next few days if and when it may be rescheduled for. In the case of the USBO, it does not have the prestige of the others, but it is the only one that ranks by objective criteria, so in many ways it can be more accurate in its rankings.

  7. The whole ranking game is a boatload of crooked individuals
who rank certain people in their organaztion to either directly or indirectly fill their own pockets.
The only true rankings are what the public see with their own eyes.
Some Commissioners use to keep and publish state rankings every month
and even though I didn't always agree with them at the time in retrospect they seem to be fairly accurate to me now.
That was twenty years ago or so and
because the sport is growing in numbers with more fighters and more promoters, managers and such
the sport has no chice but to become politaclly corrupt at the top level as it has always been thiers just more players in the game now.
Go to the local shows and judge the boxers for yourself that will be the only true ranking you will ever get.Your choice is as important as some schmuck sitting behind a desk trying to find a way
to get rich off of somebody else.

  8. That comment by anonymous is just another example of somebody who knows nothing about the sport spouting off some of what he thinks is a legitimate comment, but actually shows that he knows NOTHING.

  9. Boxing is sometimes unpredictable as you know. Often we do all we can to be prepared to fight and move up in the game, make some money and maybe even make history. I know Arvin was ready to give a great performance. I have watched him throughout years developing into the warrior he has become. Anytime he goes in that ring,
we know he is going to fight his heart out and leave it all right there. He has always been that way. I was fortunate to be in the gym the first day Ishmael came into Mr Mack's gym at age 11. In fact my own son was the first fighter he ever boxed.
His fights are always exciting and crowd pleasing. With his ring persona and good record, his good fortune is just waiting out there. It is my hope that he stays on top of his game because it is my belief that if he does, he is going to get his. So in the words of the late great Adam Clayton Powell, "keep the faith baby". 15. Hey anonymous said, your the one that's trying to sound intelligent
by telling people that I don't know what I'm talking about.
I have forgotten more about the sport and what really makes it tick than you will ever know in your life time.
I hope you have another what you think is an intelligent comment.
I am really starting to love these
    keyboard battles.
