Two Beltway veterans will try to continue their careers on Saturday, March 8 in the Cayman Islands.
DC junior middleweight Luther "Sugarman" Smith will take on veteran Charles Whittaker in a 10-round bout. Smith (22-6-2, 12 KO's) will try to bounce back from his last outing, a fifth-round TKO loss to Jesse Williams on October 6 in McLean, VA.
But Smith faces a tough veteran in Whittaker (29-12-2, 17 KO's), who has won a number of regional belts, including the NABO Junior Middleweight title that he captured in April of 2007. Whittaker defended that title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jose Berrio on August 31 in the Cayman Islands, where Whittaker is from.
Also on the card, Virginia featherweight Calvin "Pico" Faggins will make his first appearance on a card in almost 11 years as he takes on Mario Galan of Hollywood, FL in a six-round contest. Faggins (3-3-1, one KO) has not fought since being stopped in the second round by future world champion Paul Spadafora in June of 1996. Galan (3-3, two KO's) is coming off a six-round majority decision over Alex Brenes on November 21 in Miami.
Pretty good matches. It doesn't look like they're in there with killers by any stretch.
ReplyDeletethe question is will luther smith train for his fight this time everybody szw his last fight he did not train and look what happen
ReplyDeletehe use to be a good fighter who use to train very hard and come in shape but he dont seem to have the hunger no more
Any word on the final lineup for the Winchester fights?
ReplyDeleteAlso, weren't there fights in DC tonight?
I did not receive weights for tonight's Winchester card. Joe Hensley is slated to do a post-fight wrap-up show later tonight.
ReplyDeleteThe DC card was taken off the schedule about two weeks ago.
who train pico? he was suppose to fight jaime but he pulled out. he will do that again this time. i hope tinky win this fight because he need a win bad. do money mike still mange him? when money mike fight again digital?
ReplyDeleteOkay..who was the matchmakers for these fignts? Money mike Managing...he couldn't even manage himself to have a good career. Did he "manage" to stay off the drugs? It's obvious it's for the money(hopefully not for the drugs). It's definitely not for the "best interest" or love of his fighter(s).
ReplyDeletevery defensive. You fought for the love of the sport so why are you retiring after It's just business. We'll see after march 8 huh.
ReplyDeleteTrue, that may have come off as defensive. I'd love to fight again myself but currently I'm working so much that it's very tough to find time to train & I don't want to train half-ass as I frequently have in the past. I was put off by that asshole's cowardly attacks on me as a person. Whoever it was I guarantee doesn't know me. I worked very hard and have spent a lot of time and energy getting those fights. From a business standpoint, the risk/reward is more than substantial for both of my guys. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. I'm happy with the results of my work as are my fighters.

But the other poster is still a bitch.
Hahahahahaha!
mike are you ever going to fight again.i heard you was fighting toby kerrigon
ReplyDeleteToby and I have discussed the fight and both of us want it. As I said before, when and if I fight again, it will be only if I can find time to train like a professional. That said, I would want to be in especially good shape if I fight Toby. I want to be the one years from now sitting on a barstool with him, his brothers, and his dad saying, "Hey, remember all those years ago when I kicked your ass?" Not vice-versa!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
In all seriousness, the Carrigans are good friends of mine and have been for many years. Toby and I may fight one day if I decide to continue my career in the ring.
That said, this thread is about my fighters' bouts in The Caymans. Luther is going to be in tremendous shape for this fight. He has been calling me every morning at 5:30 when he's doing his roadwork. Juice will have him in top shape for this fight.
God Bless,
Mike Sawyer
