Joppy Has IBF Title Shot in February!

This is now a done deal. Former WBA Middleweight champion William Joppy (left) will challenge IBF Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute in a title bout on Friday, February 29 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Joppy (39-4-1, 30 KO's) is officially a three-time world champion (but Joppy only acknowledges the two title wins against Shinji Takehara and Julio Cesar Green and not his interim title win over Howard Eastman). But Joppy, who is ranked 15th at light heavyweight but has fought more as a super middleweight recently, has a daunting task against the undefeated Bute (21-0, 17 KO's), a native of Romania who is a very popular figure in his adopted hometown of Montreal.

There is also talk that this bout may be shown live on ESPN2. This is a Friday night bout and Bute is well-liked by "The Worldwide Leader." Currently, February 29 is an open date on the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights calendar.

  2. Also: Digital, if this is on ESPN, wouldn't Joppy be the 3rd Beltway Boxer on ESPN or ESPN2 in February? Because Mighty Mouse and Ding-a-Ling-Man are both fighting on ESPN or ESPN2, aren't they?

  3. That is correct!

And if Tony Thompson makes the PPV telecast of the Klitschko-Ibragimov card, that will make four Beltway Boxers on national TV in February

  5. Also Chop Chop Corley will be on the telecast of the Roy Jones-Felix Trinidad PPV.

I'll have more on this later, but Corley and Devon Alexander will now be fighting for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Junior Welterweight title.

  13. for all you local non-supporters Joppy has come full circle to get this opportunity,he has gone through alot of trials tribulations an obstacles the last couple of years, his daughter was murdered as he was preparing for the Hopkins fight, a court case he had nothing to do with preparing for Taylor fight,he has won five in a row against opponents to get back on track and you would hope he could get some local fan support in a Major title shot that would give this area some real Boxing crediabilty that we have not had since Leornard,Blocker,Brown,Holmes,Too Sharp,Sharmba and Joppy. So lets stop Hateing and Support our next World Champion Four time world Champion WILLIAM JOPPy, Feb.29 in Lucian Bute Hometown Montreal J.D.Brown
