Nwodo Returns January 19 in New York!

I have been told that former USBA Cruiserweight champion Emmanuel "Chukwu" Nwodo of Baltimore will return to ring action on Saturday, January 19 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Nwodo (21-4, 17 KO's) will take on perennial cruiserweight contender Ezra Sellers, who is originally from DC, but now makes his home in Florida. The bout will be on the undercard of the Roy Jones-Felix Trinidad card. No word yet on whether the bout will be part of the pay-per-view telecast.

This will be Nwodo's first bout since losing the USBA title to Darnell Wilson by stunning 11th round knockout on June 29 in Staten Island, NY. Sellers (29-7, 26 KO's) who was the IBO Cruiserweight champ and lost bouts for the IBF and WBO titles, is fighting for the third time since taking a three-year sabbatical from the sport. Since his return, Sellers has won two straight bouts.

  1. Emmanuel is an exciting fighter who has never been in a boring fight in his life. And what a showcase for his talent on the under card of Tito/Jones. I don't know anything about his opponent but he better keep his hands up. Chin from the honeycomb boxing gym

  3. I would have liked to see Emmanuel in an easier fight back. Not that Han (or Carl & Don King)don't know what they're doing, but after that brutal knockout, I'd like to see him in (for one fight) against someone who can't punch. One thing can be said about veteran fighters... the last thing to go is the punch. If Emmanuel goes after this guy early (like he always does), it could be a dangerous fight. Ezra can punch, make no mistake. I hope they are preparing for this guy specifically. Be busy, but not carelessly aggressive early, and you should get this guy Emmanuel.

My best wishes and prayers are with you,

  4. Nwodo's been in too many fights where guys couldn't, or wouldn't, punch.

It may have been a brutal knockout, but what is a tune-up really gonna do?

  5. Good point. Sometimes a fighter needs to take a punch in front of an audience (a la Jed Phipps... I know, I know, a bit different) to regain the confidence in his own mind that he can take a punch. Plus, he's coming off a layoff. Anytime that happens, you don't want your guying going right up against a big puncher. I think Nwodo will win by KO. But my opinion remains: A tune-up would've been helpful. My reasoning is purely for his psyche. He will need to come in feeling like a winner. Maybe he does.

  6. hey Bo, I thank you very much for your concern for Emmanuel. Believe this or not but I was actually talking to Doug Loughrey(from ESPN) about Emmanuel's next possible opponent being Ezra Sellers that same afternoon when that bout was offered to me from Don King. Without a hesitation we took that fight. Because we(me,Emmanuel and the team)had been talking about that match for a while. And what a perfect place where Emmanuel can shine, in Madison Square Garden. I think this bout is good for Emmanuel. Thank you again Bo, I think we will be alright for this one. Han Kim

  8. Emmanuel should win this inside five rounds. As long as he comes out with that same killer instinct he always had and is not a too gun shy from our fight. Sellers will be out as soon as Emmanuel lands clean. Emmanuel just needs to watch out for Sellers powerful right uppercut. This is an awesome showcase bout for him.
