Another champion of sorts for Beltway trainer Jose "Pepe" Correa. Correa guided Cameroon's Sakio Bika to an eighth-round TKO victory over Queens, New York's Jaidon Codrington to win the "Contender" title tonight in Boston, MA. Bika captured $750,000 with the victory.
In what was an incredible bout, both fighters traded knockdowns in the very first round and went on to exchange power shots throughout the contest before Bika finally wore down Codrington and stopped him at 2:18 of the eighth round.
Throughout the nationwide telecast, Correa repeatedly said that Bika trained in the area at the Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Center in Palmer Park, MD.
Bika's record is now 25-3-2, 15 KO's. Codrington falls to 18-2, 14 KO's.
A very strategic bout with lots of defensive skills displayed....
ReplyDeleteI heartily agree. Clearly Peepee has passed on to Bika the fine art of throwing a straight punch...
ReplyDeleteHopefully that is the last show we have to hear any more of his screeching at the fighters. As someone noteworthy once said- PeePee- don't go away mad, just go away.
Yes... the finer arts are clearly being passed on through Correa's gently but insightful words of wisdom between rounds...
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is awesome! I liked this guy on The Contender. I am estatic over his win!
ReplyDeleteIt couldn't have happend to a better person of character, skill, and determination.
Kind of ironic that he trained in Poo's gym, huh?
ReplyDeleteBika is a good guy, His trainer is the lowest form of humanity. All in favor raise your hands and wave him goodbye. Maybe he will get the message.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Bika saw right through the facade.
ReplyDeleteBika won the fight because he was in shape! Who got him shape? He has excellent power but he tends to run out of gas against the top tier opponents.
ReplyDeleteHe was in shape and he stayed in control during the entire fight, even when he was knocked down.
Hands down and no complaints here. Credit must be given to Correa for keeping Bika composed!
Great Job Correa!
P Money!
