Sometimes, my job here is to keep up with the changes.
Undefeated middleweight prospect John "No Mercy" Mackey suffered an injury in training and he will not appear on the Saturday, October 6 benefit boxing card at the Hilton McLean Tyson's Corner.
Mackey's bout will be replaced by an interesting four-round rematch between Takoma Park light heavyweight Willis "The Prophet" Lockett and Gaithersburg's Calvin Riley. The two men just fought each other on August 25 at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, VA and Lockett won by third-round TKO. Reports from fans who attended the bout say the Lockett win was somewhat controversial and that Riley was accidently thumbed in the eye and that led to the stoppage. For Riley (1-1, one KO) the loss was the first in his pro career.
Lockett (9-4-4, three KO's) just fought last Thursday, September 27 at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie and won a six-round majority decision over Willie "For Real" Williams. Lockett is currently riding a three-bout winning streak.
Are Rivera and Wilson still on the card?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Rivera is still on the card as is Bayan Jargal-Nuckie Anderson.
ReplyDeleteTodd Wilson, to my knowledge, was never slated for this card.
oh...sorry, you are right, He said he would be there. The rate this card has been shaking up I wouldn't be surprised who we will actually see Saturday. Bummed about Mackey, He really is an entertaining, exciting fighter.
ReplyDeleteLuther "Sugarman" Smith will be on Glenn Harris tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIf he win im working on a great fight for him.I cant tell your who card im working on.But your are going to be suprised. So Luther Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteWhile Luther Smith has lost his last two bouts, in his bout before those two he stopped Oba Carr in the second round!
ReplyDeleteWhether that says more about Luther Smith, or about Oba Carr at that stage of his career, I am not sure. But I'm looking forward to seeing the main event on Saturday.
It tells you he had a four year layoff before fighting two top ten contenders on under two weeks notice. I am managing Luther Smith now and have two signed fights for him. That said, whoever you are, I (and Luther)will be happy to talk. You can find my business number by looking up Luther Smith on www.boxrec.com.
ReplyDeleteMike Sawyer
Mr. Sawyer...Where/When's the weigh in going to be?
ReplyDeleteThe weigh-in will be at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner at noon on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteSo it looks like I will be going to this (thanks to my ticket source; he knows who he is). Should be a good show. Looking forward to seeing Jargal again.
ReplyDeleteMike, I'm also looking forward to seeing Luther in action.
I don't see how Willis Lockett can fight on this card. He just fought in Maryland on the 27th and they suspend you if you fight a six round fight at least fourteen days whether you have been hurt or not. Some states suspend you three days for every round you fought. I know Maryland has a similar rule. Someone better check with Fight Fax and the Patrick Pannella.
ReplyDeleteThe bout with Lockett and Riley is scheduled for four rounds, not six.
ReplyDeleteluther smith and need money mike sawyer are some bammas they can't fite or make money if i were luther i woud not fuck with mike he only want money and luther cant fite anyway they all know luther is punch drunk and mike is all about his money they both need to getr out the game for all us reel fite fans
ReplyDeleteMystery fruitcakes, that's some funny stuff!
ReplyDeletei bet anderson beat jargal, todd beat anderson, but jargal wont because he not as good as boxer as todd, todd stops jargal
ReplyDeleteYou could be right about that. Jagal better not sleep on Anderson, he's not a bad fighter at all. He would have beaten Jaime Palma the first time he fought but got stopped because he took the fight on no notice. That's right, he wasn't in the gym, Palma's fight fell completely out, and Anderson showed up to fight Palma that day! He was winning the fight until he ran out of gas. Anderson has been training consistently for his fights with Wilson and now with Jargal. This could be the upset of the night!
