Boxingtalk.com has put out two major scoops concerning Beltway Boxing personnel.
First, Boxingtalk is reporting that the WBO will name Barry Hunter its Trainer of the Year! Hunter works with two boxers (lightweight Anthony Peterson and heavyweight Tony Thompson) who are the number one ranked boxers in their respective weight classes in the WBO.

Meanwhile, Boxingtalk is also reporting that former heavyweight champion Hasim "The Rock" Rahman will return to the ring on Thursday, November 15 to take on another former world champion, "Merciless" Ray Mercer. The bout is scheduled to be held in Reading, PA and will be shown on the Versus Network. The report also says that if Rahman beats Mercer, a date with IBF Heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitchsko could be in his future.

He does. Lamont is ranked sixth in the WBO rankings. I was just making a point that he had two fighters ranked at the top of their weight classes.

ReplyDeleteCONGRATS today Barry!
In reaching out you catch and raise heart-n-bones-lives and spirits to new levels. You bring honor, and make us proud.
Congratulations Barry. Time, dedication, love for the sport, and love for your fighters. Those are the things that brought you to the top and the things that will keep you there. Everyone around the beltway applauds you.

That's a long way from training Gary Grant! But, to his credit, Barry treated Gary (a career journeyman who won all his fights in Jamaica and was winless in the states) with the same respect he treated all his fighters. Classy guy!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Barry you have always been a great! trainer/mentor to me I'm very proud of you. Anythony &Lamont have always proven to be true Champions in and out of the ring. I can honestly say that I see those guy's being future Champions in several weightclasses.
