Dietrich, Paschall Remain Undefeated in Baltimore!

Baltimore-area prospects "The American Dream" Mike Dietrich and Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall remained undefeated with solid victories in feature bouts at the DuBurns Arena in Baltimore.

Dietrich of Dundalk, MD scored a third-round TKO over Cedar Rapids, IA's Jerry "Ruff House" Simpson in a heavyweight bout. Dietrich landed a wicked uppercut that led to the stoppage of the bout at 1:51 of the third. Dietrich is now 10-0, five KO's while Simpson falls to 2-8-1, one KO.

Pasadena, MD's Paschall won a four-round unanimous decision over a very awkward Jake
"The Snake" Rodriguez of Philadelphia in a light heavyweight encounter. Paschall didn't really pick things up until the last round when he landed solid punches to enabled him to go on to victory. Paschall is 12-0-1, two KO's. Rodriguez is 8-18, five KO's.

In other bouts on the card, undefeated Baltimore heavyweight Adam "Boom Boom" Bloom captured an easy victory over "Stormin" Norman Green of Raleigh, NC. Bloom pressured Green throughout the first round. So much so that Green had enough and did not come out for the second round. Bloom is 5-0, four KO's while Green loses in his pro debut.

Annapolis, MD junior middleweight Steve Garrett got of to a great start in his first bout since 2005. He knocked down Berlin, MD's John Snyder with a solid left hand. But by the end of the bout, Snyder had gained control of the bout and finally dropped Garrett with a solid combination. As he fell, Garrett told referee Kenny Chevalier he had hurt something and the bout was stopped near the end of the fourth round. Snyder raised his record to 4-2, two KO's while Garrett is now 2-5, one KO.

The opening bout was a good battle of Tri-State boxers as Martin Wright of Brooklyn, NY won a four-round split decision over Maurice Williams of Camden, NJ. Williams actually knocked down Wright in the middle of the fourth-round, but Wright won the earlier rounds to gain the edge in the bout. Wright is 4-0-1, two KO's while Williams is 1-3-1, one KO.

The scheduled bout featuring "The Golden Greek" Elias Bouloubassis was a late scratch because the opponent, Bryan Braham, had medical issues.

On the amateur side, there were two solid performances by Baltimore's Jeremy Miller (132 Pounds)and Brandywine, MD's Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell(superheavyweight). Mitchell stopped his opponent for the sixth time this year.

A full report can be heard on the newest Post-Fight Wrap-Up, including some details about the legal rumors surrounding Dietrich.

  3. Bmore Prospective of Last Night

Dietrich--That was his best performance to date. He phusically looked awesome, and surprised me with the punch count numbers. He really let them punches go with viscious body shots and a viscous uppecut. I hope he gets everything straightened out so we can see more of him.

Pashall--Had to fight an awkward opponent, but he took care of business. The guy kept charging in with his head and grabbing trying to make it a physical fight, but Pashall's movement made it difficult, and in the 4th Paschall really unleashed some nice combinations. I like that lead right uppercut he was throwing.

Boom Boom--He did what you are suppose to do against some1 making there Pro Debut, Jump on him. WElcome to the Pro's Baby.

Garrett-Snyder--I think Garrett would have been better if this was a 4 rounder. His inactivity and age was against him but he got off to a great start against a very tuff Josh Snyder. He should have jumped on him after the knockdown, instead Josh got himself together and took control of the bout.

Opening Bout-- Was a good 1, Could have been a draw. Williams had Wright out of there in the last round, but may of not had enough in the tank to put him away. Wright was saying after the fight the he was gone after the knockdown. A little more pressure and Wlliams have have scored a very big upset against a good prospect in Wright (who had a great amature career).

The Greek-- I know the house was packed with people expressing how they wanted to see the Greek fight. HE is in the best shape that I have seen him in as a pro, after speaking with him he pulled his shirt up to show his ripped body saying "look how hard I worked man". He wanted to fight pretty bad, He is a good tough kid.

I think we seen some of our future Pro prospects in the amatures. THat kid Jeremy is truely exciting. He fights on alot of the pro am cards so i have seen him fight alot, and man that kid is something. I was also again impressed by Mitchell, that is a big boy who can really punch. Futures looking good!

  4. Nice assessment, Bmore.

I agree. The future does look bright!

  5. Digital, can you talk to Han and see if he can get Nicklow on his August card. I wanna see the kid in action!

  6. I think this was the worst card that I have ever seen put on from Baltimore Boxing. I feel they can't find a good enough opponent for Jessie Nicklow to fight. This boxer is headed for a world belt next month and they can't find somone to fight him. (unreal). I felt bad for him last night. Then they lost sound during the event. There was not a good crowd there at all.I have been to all Baltimore Boxing Events and this was the smallest crowd yet. For $500 a table this was a waste of my money.....

  7. Nicklow is fighting in Ocean City in August....

  8. Nicklow is in an interesting position. Talking to people involved with the promotion, it is tough because he has progressed so far so soon. There has been pressure put on to find opponents who are not beneath his ability.

Jessie's on a fast track at this stage. As far as the title shot mentioned, it isn't a world title, it's a minor regional title (WBF Americas title), but it is a step up and that makes finding opponents tougher. Who wants to risk their reputation against a good undefeated boxer?

  9. There are undefeated fighters who get matched up against quality opponents in fights that they learn from and that helps them develop into real stars. That is what is called good matchmaking. But having Dietrich and Nicklowe fight these total bums is a complete waste of talent. They learn nothing and it will only shortchange them in their future fights. The bottom line is that they must learn now to be prepared for tough fights later.
And the real shame here is that it also shortchanges the crowds of fans who although they buy their tickets and put money in the Snake's purse (or is it sow's ear), they lose the opportunity of rooting for their fighters as they develop.
What a waste all around. And by the fact that there was such a small crowd there, the fans must realize this already.

  10. First, crowds are typically smaller during the summer. It has very little to do with the card itself. It has to do with people being on vacation.

Secondly, there has been a concerted effort to bring up Nicklow's level of opposition. Other than Larry Brothers (which was a last-minute deal in DC), Nicklow has faced two very tough veterans in James Shedrick and Martinus Clay, an extremely tough Beltway Boxer in Jason Champion and an undefeated Matt Berkshire.

Champion was 3-1 and had just fought Tim Coleman prior to the bout. I personally thought Champion beat Nicklow that night, but Nicklow did enough to get the nod.

Nicklow smoked Berkshire and Shedrick in rematches and did very well against Clay, who has been in the ring with some tough people.

So the question is, what more do you want? This goes back to the question of how people want to see prospects develop. Personally, I have seen great improvement in Nicklow and I've seen just about every one of his bouts.

As far as Dietrich, he is still coming back after a life-threatning situation. Bmore called it correctly when he called his performance the best to date. I don't know too many that can come back from that. I think you will see his opposition get better as well.

  11. My mistake. Champion fought Coleman after he fought Nicklow. But it was still a tough bout for Nicklow.

  12. Nicklowe vs Snyder could be good. They matched up as amateurs when Snyder had only a couple bouts and Nicklowe was getting ready to exit. It was a good bout and if Snyder is not ready now, he will be soon.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nicklow-Synder would be a decent bout. It was a very good amature fight, and I think it would make a good fight, but since Synder is only 4-2 the people on this site will just complain again because they will say its a bad match up.

  14. Gary- If you think those guys are quality opponents then ok. But Shedrick is over 40, Brothers is over 40, Champion is 4-3 and going nowhere, Clay can be good one day and stinks the next depending on whether he has enough notice of a fight date. Clearly his fight with Nicklowe was last minute. Remember he did that with a Ballroom show and got starched by Art Morales who was 16-0 with only 6 Kos.
But the beauty of professional boxing is that it always comes out in the wash. We will see when and if Nicklowe ever steps up if he has been properly prepared in the gym and in his fights. At the moment, from someone who has never seen him train in the gym, I would say he is not being prepared properly.

  15. Taking Brothers out of the equation. Shedrick and Clay are the types of fighters that can give someone good work without too much fear of them beating you.

This is the same Shedrick that about two years ago knocked one of our Beltway prospects -- Tony Jeter -- into the middle of next week at BXF Gym. Jeter never fought again after that.

The majority of people Clay has fought over the years have been undefeated young prospects -- the likes of Andre Berto, Harry Joe Yorgey, Derek Ennis,Jason LeHoullier and Nick Casal (that one was in the Ballroom and Casal originally won by KO but the result was overturned when Casal tested positive for drugs).

By the way, I looked the Morales fight up, the bout went the full eight rounds with Morales winning by unanimous decision.

Remember, Nicklow is just 20 years old. There is no need to rush him into a bout that could be overly dangerous. His competition over the past two years really hasn't been bad and I've seen some technical things that I have discussed with people who truly know boxing that have improved greatly.

For example, watch how Nicklow uses his legs when he throws certain punches. A lot of his power comes from there. I don't claim to be a technical genius on this sport, but it is evident to even a novice and I've had this verified by Nicklow's camp that what I have seen is true.

  16. Bmore:

I wouldn't want to see a matchup between Nicklow and Snyder at this point because there really isn't anything to be gained by it.

If Nicklow wins, he's supposed to. If he doesn't, then he gets set back in his career.

If Snyder gets knocked out, it could be a tough one to bounce back from.

That's a solid matchup, but not right now.

  17. Gary thats exactly what i was saying. Would it be a decent fight, yes. But there would be no gain and people here on this site would still criticize. THat is the only flaw with your site, is the crybabies. Nothing you can do aboiut that.

  18. and the other thing thats wrong is that you see how poorly people can spell!!!

  19. How did Nicklow look good swinging at air. He hardly landed anything but took alot in return

  20. Nicklow was out gunned stunned and taught a lesson by an older but much faster and slicker fighter. dont let the hype on this page fool you get the tape and see it first hand

  22. Not to mention a heavier opponent!

In all honesty, an exhibition between two guys who know each other doesn't do much for me. Henry, however, should be proud of his performance against Jake Rodriguez. He dominated that bout from start to finish. Hopefully, that's the start of better things to come for him.

  23. Hey Gary who is this kid Nick Collins middleweight I think . Is he any good what about a Nick VS Nicklow fight . Can you make that happen . I seen he is running 3rd in your boxing poll what do you think.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I know that is a bout that the Collins camp wants badly! Collins is much improved since he is fighting as a middleweight.

He was having difficulties at light heavy and super middle and that's where those losses come from.

That would be a solid bout for the fans in our area, but hopefully, they can wait until something (a title of some sort) is on the line.

  25. Thank you Mr. Gary if any one know's Gary know'sssssss . What do you think the out come would be . I have talk with Mr. Hinton from Sugar Ray's gym and was told to put my money on Nick Collins and that Jank's work's with this kid Nick , when will he be ighting again. Mr. Hinton say's he work's hard in the gym and will work with any one real power.

  26. As much as I think Nicklow's very talented, I think Collins would have a good chance against him, if he were truly dedicated to staying at 160.

Collins would be the guy that is the tallest and probably the most powerful boxer Nicklow has faced thus far. It's a very intriguing matchup.

Technically, Nicklow, in my opinion, is the better boxer. However, I would be surprised if Nicklow were able to walk through the shots of Collins. Right now, I would lean toward Nicklow, but it would be a slight lean, even at this point in their careers.
