While this has been a busy time for the pros along the Beltway, the amateur scene is also heating up.
Jake "The Snake" Smith Promotions along with Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall is hosting a big amateur show on Saturday, April 28 at the Pikesville National Guard Armory in Pikesville, MD. Among the notable names on this card will be 15-year-old Hasim Rahman, Jr., the oldest son of the former two-time heavyweight champion. Rahman Jr. will be making his amateur debut on this card and Dad is slated to watch his son in action.
Other notable names slated for this card are Steve Wheeler, Dusty Harrison, Nick Kisner and Brady Sensibaugh. Twenty bouts are slated for this card, which will help send local amateurs to the Eastern Olympic Trials in Orlando, FL.
Also, Round One Gym in Bladensburg, MD has been hosting Junior Olympic bouts throughout the month and the finals will also be this Saturday at Round One.
One other note. This post is the 700th post I have made on this blog. Thanks again for your support.
Sorry, don't mean to highjack this thread, but...Does ANYONE know if there will be a press conference today (4/26) for tomorrow's fightat the Armory???

Is it true that to be a fighter, they test your penis size? Not being funny, but I read that in a boxing article and was like what the heck?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous is that why you dont box, cause you wouldnt make the cut, HAHA
ReplyDeleteThe women boxers must dread taking that test!
ReplyDeleteLinda
Hasim Rachman Jr. lost to Curtis McKinney by a decision. Both boxers were having their first fight and you could easly tell.
ReplyDeleteI was there, and did you see how they annouced Rachman the winner first. They tried to get over but Curtis corner wanted to see the score cards and that is when they annouced Curtis McKinney the winner.
ReplyDeleterahman, i give him ten fights at best. way too big of a deal was made out of his first amateur fight by the bato sun paper, the promoter etc etc etc. then you had kids from 8 years old on up who had to wait to fight many had sold tickets, etc etc. at 11pm i left, the show was on bout 10 or 11, the south atlantic officials had an two 8 year olds scheduled to fight in bout 26, i pulled my boxer out,i didnt think young kids need to fight at12 or 1 in the morning, not on a club show ,maybe in a tournament if neccessary. other clubs and coaches did the same
ReplyDeleteDo you have any idea what it takes to throw a show? Obviously not!
ReplyDeleteYou have over 80 boxers who weighed in and all of them would have loved to be first. From what I gather, you live two blocks from the event. Well, what about those boxers thame drove down from DC,VA,NJ,PA,WV.????Why should you box first? You never sold one ticket and you even got 4 people in free. You pulled out because you refused to box a decent fighter. You wanted an easy win and you did get it,so you made an excuse to pull out just like you did 6 times in the past. You may be a decent security guard for the Bowie Town Center, but you do not know boxing. You need to apolgize for your cruel remarks. If not, I shall complain to Foot Locker about the incident last thursday night. You need to step up and have your boxers stop pulling out of these fights. If not, they are never going to get better. And you wonder why MLG is the best damn boxing gym within 100 miles either way. AS far as I am concerned the promotor and the officials did a great job. I hope there is another show at the same place next week. You need to get a life and if you have a problem with it, call me
410-332-6200 or fax me 410-332-6977
And if you do not like the shows, stay home... none of us want to see you crying...You are pitiful!
Hello Sun Sport, I agree with you. I think that is the little short guy from BXF AC. He was crying all night. None of those guys can box anyway. They need to play volleyball.
ReplyDeleteactually, the officials did agood job trying to organize almost 30 fights. like i said, an 8 year old boxer usually boxes early and the cards progress from there. and that fighter sold tickets, and no we were not looking for an easy match, we were scheduled another young kid who holds 2 close(split decisions) over the boxer i had.so no he was not looking for an easy fight. and as far as the rahman bout it is not that any young boxer does not deserve press, but alot of other young men and women who are acclomplished boxers recieve none.the ten fights at best is to see improvement ect. no disrespect was intended tojake or anyone else
ReplyDeletelooks like this VZ guy got scared and is changing his tone real fast... Like someone said earlier, they are not real fighters. They get scared too fast.
ReplyDeleteI got to work today, checked my email, and then went to surf the net. I find that someone took it upon themselves to use my name or something close to my name to post some comments yesterday. My correct name is Vincent Veazey, sometimes referred to as Vince, Vin, V or Veaz. Sometimes my last name is Abbreviated to Vz Lower case z Not upper. Whoever for whatever reason must know, they actually had some of their facts almost right. The 8 year old boxer I had at the fights in Pikesville was my son Joe. We went in hopes of finding a match with someone he had not boxed yet, but 8 year olds can be hard to match. So a match was made with another young man which Joe had boxed twice before and also sparred with. Apparently the passbooks had been misplaced and once this was realized an official tried to help out and would move the up from bout 28(not 26) When this could not be done,it was a mutual decision between myself and the other coach to scratch the bout, because both boys were tired and mine was falling asleep. As far as the promotion, it would not be to my advantage to bad mouth Jake Smith,he is the president of SAA and I will be working with him in the future, not to mention he has helped me out before by using Joey on several of his shows and actually offerred me a job when I thought I would be retiring due to an injury.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the press goes any positive press is good for boxing wether to help put people in the seats or promote boxing in general.
So in closing, whoever, next time you want to stir up shit, use your own name, make one up or use anonymous. signed Vincent J Veazey Or VJVz
BULLSHIT, I checked several old statements that you made months ago. I know it was you. Now why dont you just apoligize and admit you were wrong. You printed the exact type pf crying that you did that night. I know it was you. Now you had Sharon write something nice for you with correct spelling. Its ok VZ we all say dumb shit sometime in our lives. Look brother, you complained all night long and you did it again on line. No one is mad at you for real. Shit happens all the time, there is no need to go out like a coward. We still love you, I've seen worse than you. Not many, but I have seen worse. You were walking around in damn near tears that night. I seen you crying to Randal Wills, he too laughed at you. You only care about one boxer and that is your boy. Thats it! You actually think he never lost a fight when most think he never won a fight. I also think you are the one that backed into my truck on purpose on Pratt street in 06. They described you to a T. But what the hell, I have no proof and I can tell already that you are not the type of guy to admit anything that you do wrong. Just like the shit you pulled with Josh Hall. The man tried to help you and you screwed him in return. He has done nothing but help young boxers and thier family for years now, and you did him wrong and you know it. You need to show respect for your elders. You can start right now by admiting you were wrong and the damn show turned out great. We will all forgive you. I am serious, lets start out fresh, but you need to fess up young man, get your life straight. You had one boxer that night while jake had 84 to worry about. The man did a great job and you know it. Stop by the bar after 8 tonight and I will buy you a drink..We can kiss and make up-ok...
ReplyDeleteI was not able to finish earlier due to work. Again i apologize the comments made and more so for being dumb enough to try to cover it. Again thanks to mlg for making me see the light. I feel better now that I have done so and hope I can use this lesson learned. It was harder yet much better to tell the truth and apologize. if at all possible I would like to make a public apology at the duburns show next week if Jake will have me their and let do so. thank you.Vincent Veazey VJVz
ReplyDeleteVeazy, it took a lot of ball to do that! I have big respect for you. You are more than welcome to stop by the barber shop for a free shape-up anytime you wish. Remember, no one is perfect and we all make mistakes...
ReplyDeleteDear Jake, I want to to purchase tickets for the BIG APOLOGY from
ReplyDeleteVeazy. It takes a man with balls to do that and I want to see if he sticks by his word. I love it!!!
