Retta Loses in Dubai!

Alexandria, VA light heavyweight "The Lion of Judah" Sammy Retta lost by seventh-round KO on March 24 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The bout was the first bout in more than a year for the native of Ethiopia, who now has a record of 18-3 with 17 KO's.

It's feast or famine for Retta when he fights. As you see, all but one of his wins have ended in knockouts, but two of his three losses are by knockout as well including the last time Retta fought along the Beltway -- September 24, 1999 at MCI (now Verizon) Center -- when he was stopped by Oswaldo Bello in the six round. That was on the same card as the second bout between Keith Holmes and Andrew Council as well as the third bout between William Joppy and Julio Cesar Green.

Thanks to Skinnyscott for the heads-up on this bout as well as the bout featuring DC junior welterweight Reggie "The Mechanic" Holly in Wilson, NC this past Saturday. I haven't found a result for that one yet, so if anyone knows the outcome, let us know.

  1. You go Sammy, don't let this loss put you down. You have a great record, you're a great guy and you keep on winning so good luck.
