Gabcast! Boxing Along the Beltway #44 - Post-Fight Wrap-Up From Pikesville!
"The Fight Doctor" Jerome Spears and I talk about an exciting, yet frustrating "Punches in Pikesville" card from the Pikesville National Guard Armory.
Quick results:
The main event between Pasadena, MD's Jessie "The Beast" Nicklow and Matt "The Bull" Berkshire of Morgantown, WVA was stopped 1:10 into the first round because an accidental headbutt caused a gash over Berkshire's right eye. The cut was ruled too deep for Berkshire to continue, according to a Maryland State Athletic Commission doctor. The bout was declared a technical draw because less than half the rounds of the scheduled six-round contest were completed. Nicklow's record is 9-0-1, three KO's while Berkshire's record is 8-0-1, three KO's.
Pasadena, MD's Mike "The Persecutor" Paschall won a four-round majority decision over late sub William Gill. Paschall is now 11-0-1, two KO's.
Horace "The Reason" Grant of Bowie, MD won a six-round unanimous decision over Chris "The Headbanger" Riley. Grant is 5-1, four KO's.
"The Golden Greek" Elias Boulabassis of Owings Mills, MD earned his first pro victory in explosive fashion, knocking out Vincent Robbins in just 15 seconds of the first round. Boulabassis is now 1-0-2, one KO.
Welterweight Earl "Mighty Mouse" Cole of Brooklyn, MD won his pro debut by stopping veteran "Diamond" Matt Hill of Randallstown, MD at 1:53 of the fourth round.
Richard Stewart of New Castle, DE (the older brother of Contender: Season Two participant Michael Stewart) scored a second-round TKO over Santiago "El Asesino" Hilario of Indianapolis, IN. Stewart's record is now 12-2-1, seven KO's. Hilario is 5-10, three KO's.
I talked to the Dr. who stopped the fight for the cut on the fighters eye lid.
ReplyDeleteHe did the right thing, the Dr. said when he spread the cut open he could peer into his eye cavity.
He also said that one more punch could have ripped his eye lid off and caused the fighter to lose his sight in that eye.
One of the other doctors basically told me the same thing after we did the post-fight show. Once a cut is on the eyelid, the bout will be stopped. That wouldn't be changed, the doctor said, if it was a heavyweight title fight.
ReplyDeleteThat kid the Greek was incredible, word's can not explain how explosive that knock-out really was. I think everyone in the arena felt that. I enjoyed the entire card and liked how friendly all the fighters were with the fans there. They came out after their fights and mingled with everyone. It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Elias!!! Wish I could have gotten that one! No draw worries this time.

Boul is one of the badest boys Maryland has right now, he's the white version of Ricadro Magorga.
ReplyDeleteWatch out all you middle -super middle weights out there!
What a KO! That needs to be on one of those top KOs of year shows. Somebody should send a good video of that into ESPN. Can't wait to see the Golden Greek's next fight.
