'Pitbull' White Returns in Winchester March 10!

It seems that Winchester, VA is rapidly becoming a new hotbed of boxing in the area. On the heels of this Saturday's Scott Farmer card at the Winchester Sportsplex, Squared Circle Promotions is putting on a show on Saturday, March 10 at the Best Western Banquet Hall on 711 Millwood Avenue.

A number of Beltway Boxers are scheduled on the show, including Smithburg, MD lightweight Dean "Pitbull" White who will take on Frankie "Panchito" Zepeda of Shelbyville, IN.

As you know, White (14-5-1, seven KO's) is coming off the biggest victory of his career, the eight-round unanimous decision victory over Dorin Spivey on December 9 at the George Mason University Patriot Center. This scheduled 10-round bout is only the second time White has participated in a bout scheduled for more than eight rounds.

Zepada (16-4, nine KO's) won his first 15 bouts, but has lost four of his last five. In his last outing, Zepada lost by fifth-round TKO to former world champion Paul Spadafora in Spadafora's comeback fight on November 22 in Erie, PA.

Also slated for this card is WBE Middleweight champion Perry Ballard of Leesburg, VA. Ballard (18-1, 14 KO's) hasn't fought since winning the WBE Middleweight title on April 15, stopping Bobby Elkins in the second round in Martinsburg, WVA. Ballard is scheduled to take on "The Scrapyard Dawg" Travis Clybourn of Columbia, SC in another 10-round encounter. Clybourn (14-36-1, eight KO's) has lost his last four, including a second-round TKO to Jean Paul Mendy on April 29 in Greensboro, NC.

Ellicott City, MD featherweight Mike "Little Rock" Ricasa returns to action on this card, as he faces veteran Reggie Sanders of Fort Wayne, IN in a scheduled six-round bout. Ricasa (7-2, three KO's) stopped Andrew Mendez in the first round on June 21 at Martin's West. Sanders has only one win in his last 13 bouts. His last contest was a four-round split decision loss to Jaime Palma on the December 9 Patriot Center card.

This card is also scheduled to feature the return of Alexandria, VA junior welterweight Kompa (Kay) Koroma. Koroma (1-0) has not fought since making his pro debut in September of 2005 at the Patriot Center, winning a four-round unanimous decision over Terrell Davis. Koroma is scheduled to face veteran Rashaan Abdul Blackburn of Cleveland, OH. Blackburn (8-40-2, four KO's) has lost seven straight, including his last outing, a six-round unanimous decision loss to Marteze Logan on November 4 in Alexandria, LA.

Also scheduled to appear on the show are Waynesboro, VA boxers Juan Carlos Robles and George Rivera and cruiserweight Ibn Ali, the nephew of Muhammad Ali. Ibn Ali lived in the Beltway area for awhile, but now makes his home in West Virginia.

This is not the only show on March 10. The next Baltimore Boxing card at the Pikesville National Guard Armory is also on this date. More about that card as soon as information comes in.

  2. Where and how do you get tickets for this show? Dean is a good fighter but the show stopper has to be Ballard. Win or lose he puts on a great show. I have watched him several fights in VA and DC and I have never been dissapointed. Beer please!

Hey Digital! Is this Ali kid any good or not? I see he is on a 2 fight win streak.

Interview some of these guys, it would be interesting to here what they have to say about there fight and upcoming fights.

I will try to get a hold of some of the guys on this card.

  5. That does sound exciting. Who is Squared Circle Promotions? I haven't heard of them.

  6. BALLARD A SHOW STOPPER? Are you kidding me. He may sell tickets, but the quality of opponents is another question.

  7. Hey! My opinion is only my opinion! He ko'd a bigger rough and tough fighter on the Lange / Greenleaf card. I believe Greenleaf was on a 50/50 fighter. Regardless of fighters records, I want to see someone get ko'd! Winchester, VA here comes a DC fight fan. Have beer and ready!

  10. I saw Ibn Ali fight his last two fights and he put on a good showing. The first fight I saw was an exciting competitive fight in which Ali pulled out a knockout in the last round.

  11. I can't wait to see the "Pitbull". He alway goes toe to toe and puts on a great show! I thought his fight with Spivey was the best on the card that night. I'd really like to see on a card soon, Dean "Pitbull" White rematch with Montey Clay (the bout shown on ESPN that was stopped prematurely for a cut). Listen up Promoters, can you put that together for this "pitbull" fan!

  12. Here goes. Spivey beat Dean White. Did you see his face after the fight. Come on Dean is a tough guy and smash mouth, no head movement boxer and his age is catching up with him.

As for Ballard, he beats up on anybody that he can, including robbers. Who is his next opponent a Taxi driver.

Why he fights I do not know! He should just retire and move into a doublewide in WV. Doesn't everyone in WV live in a trailor?

As for Ali! He has to beat someone other than a dead man before anyone will take him serious.

  14. HERE GOES! how about the club fight of the last 5 years, Perry Ballard vs Ken Hock. now THAT would be a brawl and a half, let me know when they are fighting and we'll be there

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yo Fightfanwv,

I have never heard of Ken Hock, so I looked him up. Unlike Perry Ballard, Hock has fought guys who can fight back, Clarence Taylor and John Duddy to name a few. He would knock Ballard cold within a few rounds max! Ballard should absolutely be ashamed of himself for calling himself a professional boxer. He's an embarrassment!

  16. Ballard would do better than a few rds, i would give him atleast 5 rds. would be a good fight, i've seen that dude fight before. same style as ballard but like you said, he has fought someone with a heartbeat. set it up!!!!

  17. Ballard wouldn't take that fight at all. Like that Cajun Cook used to say, "I GUARANTEE!" (GAIR OWN TEE)

    ReplyDelete
  18. he might take it but, I doubt it! would be a good one to see, come on ballard! Fight someone that can fight. I would say ballard would make the 7th too for the record

  19. How did Hock become part of this blog?

Why would boxing fans want to watch Ballard and Hock go at it when they are friends? Hock was in Ballards corner when he fought in Martinsburg, WV!

    How about Hock versus Clatterbuck?

    Dave

  20. Get this!!

I heard Ballard is homeless at the moment! I think in Leesburg, VA.

He probably would fight anyone to get some money or food!

If anyone has any other news or if this is in fact true, please blog as soon as possible!

I would like to help him out.

  21. Ballard is far from homeless, he's well off I think. Ballard would fight a friend, (if he promises not to punch back) and Clatterbuck falls into the same category as Ballard, he wouldn't fight anyone with a punch either so hock is out. Find either of them a 50 year old man that won't fight back and they are in.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Who has hock fought and beat. Headhunter you need to look at Hocks boxrec and then decide if he fought any more quality opponents than Ballard or Clatterbuck. As a matter of fact it is probably goes to Ballard! Duddy was on 3 - 0 when they fought.

I don't think anybody above 35 should fight. Period.

Ballard and Clatterbuck both should hang it up.

    Case closed!
