Lange-Cabell Now a Title Bout; Johnson Off Card; Pultz Return Official!

I have received word that the main event bout on the December 9 card at the George Mason University Patriot Center between Jimmy Lange and Fontaine Cabell will now be for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Junior Middleweight Championship!

Also, former three-time world champ Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson is now off this card completely.

And, the return of former WBO Cruiserweight champion Boone Pultz is now official. Pultz will take on "The People's Champion" Jonathan Felton in a six-round encounter. Pultz, who turns 47 this Saturday, has not fought since September of 1995.

More on these developments later in the week.

  1. Perry Ballard is a bum who has absolutely zero talent and nobody cares about. Go back to beating up homeless shoplifters Perry! Nobody, but nobody, cares about your worthless, no talent, trailer park living, mayonaise sandwich eating, trans-am driving, section 8 check cashing behind. Go back to work and make sure you say the phrase you're best known for while at work: "Would you like to make that a large combo today?"

  2. Perry, one more thing, I forgot about the mullet! You mullet wearing, no talent bum! You should be locked up for impersonating a fighter! BUM!

  3. Boone's 47 and still fighting? Damn! Shame about Too Sharp-I was looking forward to seeing him. What happened?

  4. I think it was a little too much emotion and mouth involved from Johnson. That got him in trouble.

  5. Agreed Gary. I think this was a wise move by Johnson. As for Pultz...Yikes! I do vaguely remember him in the 80's/90's, but 47 and 10 years removed from the ring? And (I could be off here) but I believe his opponent is much younger and actually a decent fighter. The corner and ring doctor had better keep a close eye here.

  6. Felton is a decent fighter but has had some tough luck of late.

Pultz looks to be in decent shape walking around. Whether that translates to boxing shape remains to be seen.

  7. Felton is actually not who I was thinking he was. (I looked him up on Box rec) I feel a bit more comfortable now.

  8. Methinks we have some posters entirely unclear on the concept. Before and after the last Patriot Center Card, promoted by Joe Hensley, a slew of vile, unsubstanciated and always anonymous potshots were lambasted at....Chris Middendorf, who had nothing to do with the card.

Now that the Lange-Cabell bout has been announced, the anonymous potshots are coming out against....Perry Ballard. What am I missing here?

To Mr. Anonymous: attend the fight or don't attend the fight, just back up your arguments with a fact or two every once in a while, and stand behind your words with your name, like a man.

  9. Cabell will not go as many rounds with Lange as Perry Ballard did. Now we know that Lange is getting worse, so don't be so quick to run old Perry down. If Lange continues circling the drain, Perry might just be dangerous in the rematch.
Most people in the know who watched the Wilt fight know that Wilt was winning the fight until the last round when he mysteriously quit. So Lange should get by Cabell especially if the MONEY is right for Cabell.
But Ballard sure did not lay down with Jimmy. He is just not that type of bum. He is not a Cabell or a Wilt. He was fighting a guy who outweighed him by twenty pounds and showed a ton of heart. and that is more than can be said for Wilt, and maybe more than can even be said for Lange when he fought Gilbert and pussied out.

  10. Cabell is a bum. If you have to keep getting Jimmy to fight these D class fighters I agree with everybody else.He would never be a world champion he and his father is stealing money without a gun.

  11. Cabell is a Bum! He is rated 676 out of 890 boxers in the Light Middle-weight Division. 2 Round fight unless Jim Lange carries him.
Title fight? Are you kidding me? Come on Digital whats up with this? Top 10 ranking to the winner? Get real! Thank God for BallRoom Boxing! Because this card sucks! Chris Middendorf Rules as a Matchmaker!

  12. Can someone help me! Who is Pery Balard? How and why did he become part of this blog?

  13. Perry Ballard is a decent boxer out of Leesburg, VA who has a big punch but that is about it! He fought Jimmy "The Contender" Lange last year. He was by repeatedly fouled and battered by Jimmy Lange during the fight. The last I heard he retired from boxing due to Jimmy not giving him a promised rematch.

  14. Perry has a record of 18-1, 14 knockouts, although most of his wins came against guys who had records well under .500.

His last victory, however, came against veteran Bobby Elkins and he won by second-round TKO. Elkins's record coming in was 29-20.

Perry fights because he wants to. He is a very intelligent man with a couple of master's degrees. He is not hurting for money or fame. He fights strictly for the fun of competing.

Also, Perry made news recently when he stopped a robbery by tackling a thief who, I think, stole a lady's purse.

  15. ESPN announced of TV and SI.com wrote Ballard tackles robber who had robbed a taxi man of $473 dollars.

He can't be that bad of a guy, to have helped someone. Hell! He did not even puch the robber! Fox 5 DC ran the news report as did the biggest jerk in town Elliot in the Morning.

  16. OK! Thanks everyone for the little tid-bits on Ballard's minor league boxing career and his stupid hero act! That sounds crazy!

Was he really fouled as one writer wrote? Does anyone have the fight on tape?

Why would someone get their brains beat in if they did not do it for money as you wrote Digital? He must be a little nuts?

Digital, will this guy fight again?

    Back to my original question!

How did Ballard become part of this blog and why? Should I even care?

  17. Ballard is no Bum. He is a power puncher that only goes for KO's. He has some skills and Yes, he would beat Wilt and definitely Cabell.

In the fight with Jimmy Lange, Lange dropped Ballard with an intentional low blow. The ref only gave him about 45 seconds to recoup from the foul. If you also look at the first knock down, Lange blast Ballard in the back of the head and it was still called a knock down.

The ref was in Langes pocket. Later, Ballard hurt Lange and the ref stopped Ballard from hitting him again before the end of the round. Even the announcers agreed, but the announcers were pro Lange were not good. Jimmy threw a lot of illegal back punches, but he did what he had to do to keep the power punching country boy from throwing his bombs. Jimmy boxed well keeping Ballard away that night but I think it would be a different outcome if they ever boxed again. I watched several of Ballards fights which includes his last fight in WV. He looked cool and calm until he lowered the bomb.

Digital, what was all the fuss about during the Lange vs Ballard fight. Why do these two dislike each other. The electricity in the air that night at the Patriot Center has not been matched at Langes other fights.

    Will they ever fight again?

  18. The whole situation between Lange and Ballard actually took place a little more than a year before the bout.

Both men were winners on a card in DC and Ballard called Lange out. Lange never really wanted the fight because, although Ballard had a good looking record, he never fought the caliber of competition that Lange had.

I was at the Lange-Ballard fight and Lange dominated the bout pretty much from start to finish. Having said that, the bout was originally scheduled to be fought at welterweight and somewhere along the line, the bout was changed to junior middleweight. Ballard had to move up in weight in a short period of time to prepare for the bout.

But the bottom line is that Perry is a nice guy and a decent boxer, but talent wise, Lange is better.

  19. Cabell a bum, never underesterimate that guy, yeah a bad three fights but kicked Langes ass. Langes own brother said it, so did the ref. Let's see this coming fight. Look at the pictures and the condition that Lange was in, Cabell didn't even have a mark on his body, Lange looked like a truck ran him over lets be real. Cabell did the 12 rounds with Lange, the funny thing is that Langes so call people underestermiated Cabell thinking they will be walking out in or about the 6th round. Never underesterimate anyone, Everyone has bad luck at times, but Cabell has the love of boxing, the faith of challeage.

  20. Well this Saturday is it for Lange,Cabell is the upcoming champ watch out world. Cabell has the faith of all, his boxing skills will over come the judges decession. He's faith that he carries will bring up the right decession of all and Lange will hide his head between his legs. Everyone from Staten Island New york wish Cabell we can't say luck because you already have that in fact you have the faith,we can truely say keep the faith baby.

  25. Perry actually stunned Jimmy Lange in there last fight but the ref pulled Perry away for some unknown reason.. Gave Juimmy time to re-coup.. Then Jimmy landed several low blows and used his height and weight as an advantage... I was ring side and one thing I know is given the opportunity again Perry I think can win the fight.. Jimmy is good at one thing and that is flapping his gums.. Let the fight happen in dc or balt. Perry can def. beat Jimmy "wang" Lange

  26. I would like to say to the person who is calling Perry a bum, F*&^ off! If you knew that Perry was only doing this for the fun of it would it make a differince?! Or wait, he must have bet your favorite boxer! Is that it, so you now have to bad mouth him. Perry is the type of person who wants to do as much in life as possibal. This is just one of the many things he has acomplished!!!!
Don't you wish you could just take all the time you wanted to just do the things you like. Well, he is able to do just that!! Good for Perry Ballard!!!!!!!
