Buchanan Eliminated in Super Middleweight Tourney!

Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan's quest to gain elite status among rising super middleweight prospects ended last night in Santa Ynez, CA.

The Capitol Heights, MD native was outclassed by Jean Paul Mendy of France and lost a non-competitive 10-round unanimous decision in front of a nationally televised ShoBox audience. It was Buchanan's first pro loss.

The bout was Buchanan's first against a southpaw and it showed, badly. Quite frankly, Buchanan looked ill-prepared for the bout. There were rumors that Buchanan and trainer Junious Hinton weren't always on the same page in training for this bout.

Whatever the problem was, the only positive things that can be said about this bout are these:

1. Buchanan continues to show a good chin, which he's shown throughout his young career.

2. Buchanan has a YOUNG career. He's just 14-1, 11 KO's and just 28. He still has time.

  1. No surprise here. Another local fighter that is a bust. Poo showed nothing at all. The Peterson Brothers are it and they do have the goods.

Why was Midendorfous there? I know, to rip off some more fighters right? Hey Poo, watch your money.

  3. Sugar Poo looked nothing like the Sugar Poo who has been roughing up the Peterson brothers lately. I watched him just last week giving Lamont and Anthony fits sparring in the gym. It must be true that Hinton and Sugar are getting a divorce. He will most likely call it quits after that performance last night. Too bad he is unable to return to the amatures. He was exciting back then, even though he lost a lot. I do wish him the best of luck in whatever he decides to do. Hinton, Janks Morton split exactly 3,850 dollars for the work they put in. I think they now regrett going out there in the first place. Janks Morton had to pay for a seperate room wich I thank is totally unfair, but thats boxing... Sugar asked for a rematch early this morninmg, but we all know that will never happen.

  4. Hey Mike, I too heard about the money sititation. I think Hinton deserved much more. He did put many hours in with this guy even knowing he never had a snowballs chane.

  5. Poo,

Screw all them comments. At this point, you know where you need to be,....., back home. Remember that tall dood you fought at Michael's. Who got you prepared for that long jab? Yo, I wouldn't even have a desire to fight a tall southpaw unless I had 'you know who' to get me prepared. How you 'goin leave home and let somebody get you a loss, and then have them complain about money? You still 'whats up',......, on St. Barnabas Rd. though. Make sure you read carefully, and come home to the only trainer to defeat Emanuel Steward in a heavyweight championship fight. What happened to the 'Bolo'? What about hook body, then head? What about 'cake-walking'. Yo, you're a smart guy. The writing is on the wall. Speaking of the only trainer to defeat Emanuel Steward in a championship fight,....,

    Hasim,

Whats 'goin on, man? 'Wit Thell Torrence you got the belt, but did you win it in the ring? Did you even win your defense? You got all the tools, except the tool which was the man who had you punching like a 'mule-kick'. Yo,...., there was one fight where you did everything correct. Remember the Frankie Swindell fight? You did everything correctly, so I've been told by the 'most reliable source'. Remember you got up from a knock-down against Corey Sandermuch better face for the lack of production over the past two days.

  6. Poo should come home to where he belongs. Poo, how you 'goin go away from home and let somebody put you in with a big southpaw? When you encountered whatever problems you were encountering in training, you should have asked to come home. You 'betta ask can you come home and get whats yours,......, riding, cake-walk, HOOK BODY-THEN HEAD, and last but not least: BOLO. I guess you lost that since you left home, 'cause I a'int see none of that in your fight. The bolo was a guarantee against that long boy.

  7. Poo should come home, and so should Hasim. There is tons of opportunity for them both. Hasim has 'gotta know he needs to be home 'cause push come to shove Emanuel Steward 'goin choose Vladimir before he chooses Hasim. Hasim should realize that the only man to train a fighter that defeated Emanuel Steward in a championship fight was Adrian Davis, and WILL do it again,.........,Hasim. When you fought Ruiz, you weren't getting proper instruction from the corner. Peep the tape again. Your man had to come home based on dealings 'wit 'dem doods. All of them stick together, for Detroit. Come holla at 'dat B'more-D.C. connect.

  8. In continuation, since my initial comment was written through. Hasim, remember when you lost to Maskaev the first time, and what all the nay-sayers were reporting about you. Now we've come full circle, almost de-ja-vu, cause you've lost to Maskaev again. Who fixed you the first time? Who WILL fix you the 2nd time? Not only did you win an alphabet 'trinket' (as you like to call them), but you were the undisputed Heavyweight Champ. You ko'd who was considered the top heavyweight in the world. You understand countering. Emanuel Steward countered in your 2nd fight with Lennox, but he only countered based on technical flaws which were to be corrected. Who got you on this 'comeback trail' at Michael's, and in Dover, Delaware? Everybody's been feeding you the crap about you were trained wrong because you had your hands out. At this point, you should understand that the right hand is used as your defense. It blocks the jab, the right hand, and the hook. From that, you can counter, especially that round house you got caught with. All them Detroit guys want to do is examine you further, and try to make more money off of you. Follow the truth, by utilizing your mind with spirituality. You should be thinking very clearly, especially with you praying heavily this month. The 'Doc' is only a phone call away. You already know.

  10. There was virtually no doubt in my mind that Hanshaw & Mendy were the true class of this tournament. Should be an interesting one between those two.

  15. At least Buchanan fought well enough in his career to be undefeated after fourteen fights and get two shots on Showtime. So all of you who wish to criticize the man should give him credit for training hard and fighting. He showed heart and went the distance with a very tough guy in Mendy, and with only that one loss on his record, if he stays in the gym he will get another shot.
And, as everybody in the semi-final round of the tournament received $25000., nobody got ripped off, as that is close to the most anyone has ever been paid on ShoBox.

  16. Hey Chris why not put together a lightweight tournament
