New Poll: Which Beltway Boxer Will Be a Contender by August 2007?

There's a new poll on the blog. I ask you to predict the future. Who do you think will be a contender in the sport by this time next year? Here is some information on the nominees:

Ty Barnette, lightweight, DC: 7-0, five KO's

Tony Cygan, super middleweight, Middle River, MD: 11-1, six KO's

Jessie Nicklow, middleweight, Severn, MD: 5-0, two KO's

Mike Paschall, light heavyweight, Baltimore, MD: 9-0, two KO's

Tyrell Samuel, lightweight, Baltimore: 7-0, five KO's

Mike Sawyer, middleweight, Falls Church, VA: 2-1, one KO

Thomas Snow, lightweight, Capitol Heights, MD: 5-0, three KO's

Willie Williams, light heavyweight, Baltimore: 3-1, one KO

Of course, you can comment and name someone else all together.

By the way, here are the results of the last poll about who you thought leads the voting for Beltway Boxer of the Year, with 102 votes in. (Thanks a lot!!)

Eric Aiken -- 24 votes

Dean White -- 23 votes

Tony Thompson -- 21 votes

Emmanuel Nwodo -- 12 votes

Other -- 9 votes

Anthony Peterson -- 4 votes

Lamont Peterson -- 3 votes

Interesting voting. I thought the Petersons would get more votes, honestly. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the year plays out.

  1. I have no idea-of these, the only one I've seen fight was Sawyer (and it was his sole loss), so I've not enough info to vote.

  2. None of the above. The second group is by far, the better group. Where is Clearance Vinson today?

  3. No one knows. The word I keep hearing is he may drop in a gym for a couple of days, then stay out for months.

  4. I do not know who becomes a contender but I know who will not even come close{ Ty Barnette has no heart at all and he never ever trains properly. He is scared to even spar someone who can fight He has pulled out of so many bouts that it is pitiful. Chris is fed up with him and refuses to even consider him for a glove boy.
Mike Sawyer: Is a joke. He pretends that he is sick all the time just get out of fight.
Thomas KO snow and Mike Pashcall do have a good chance at doing something in boxing. Both train hard and will fight anyone out there at anytime.

  5. Clarence Vinson is overweight, a few months ago he got his butt whipped by an amature boxer who has had 17 fights. After that, I never seen him in the gym again.
    HE IS MIA!!!

  6. Clarence Vinson
Has been MIA for a year and a half
It looks like he retired for real
His heart is not in boxing. I think he is a serious disappointment to the dc area almost all his team mates from the olympics have done something with there self except him . Jermine taylor is a world champ, Jeff Lacy former world champ, Calvin Brock is a top contender , Brian V. Just lost his title .

  7. None of the above. Pretenders yes, contenders, no.
Lets hold off on the lists until someone emerges that seriously looks like a real prospect.

  8. I think the answer is simple, whoever signs with a big promoter. I also think that a year is not a long enough time frame. Of the aforementioned, Paschall would have the best chance within the next year. He can fight, trains hard, and is smart. Snow may have the most talent, although he hasn't seen any competition yet as a pro. Cygan is very good, ditto for Nicklow. Sawyer shows a lack of amateur experience, and will have to be moved carefully. I haven't seen Tyrell Samuel yet but have heard he's good. I'm not sure what happened to Kay Koroma. If he'd been fighting, he'd be on this list. Andrew Farmer can fight as well. what about Reggie Holly?

  9. Holly has been up and down early on. Plus he's having a tough time getting fights.

This poll was just something to get people thinking. You can't wait on that because none may pan out. They are young boxers, who so far are doing well. That's why the key word is "predict"
